HERDING CLINIC 3-5 AUGUST 2002 with Maarten Walter, USA

       After three days of hard work in marvellous weather, with mosquitos in the hair, sheep in our shoes
and constantly reminding ourselves to relax all we can say is-  WE HAD A GREAT TIME !!!

We worked in the round pen:
    
"Hmmm.. let's see now.. what am I doing here     ... maybe I should try some gathering"
Cisco ( W. Tomb Raider) 6 month and Annika Westman, Östersund, at their first meeting with the sheep. 
 

" Hey you... what kind of reindeer is this?? They've lost their horns!!
Marja Kuhnunen and Save came all the way from Kiruna, 1 300 kilometers up north where day work reindeers on a daily basis.  

Some of the dogs were a bit more experienced and could work in the bigger pen with other exercises.

work on fetching the sheep in a nice straight line to the handler.

We also spent time working on penning the sheep.

        
Cia Jansson and Iza to the left in the roundpen and Linda Ernholm and  Nike to the right working in the bigger pen.  

The last day we worked on taking ourselves through a whole ASCA course. 
Some tried the Started level:

Linda and Nike took the sheep out of the pen, Nike gathered them to Linda and here they are heading for the first obstacle. 

 Mickey and Lena did the same and here they have passed the first obstacle .....

..... and the second obstacle and are now heading back to repenn the sheep.  

This two tried the next level, OTD, with more driving and a center obstacle. 
Mr Binks Mara Jade and Lillemor Löfving managed just fine. 

And all of it was supervised by Maarten Walter, USA
and our own  Gunilla Ekberg with Whoppi (El Merinos Little Pistol).
Here  Cia Jansson and Iza ( Windedos Easy Living') has their attention.
Gunilla and Whoppi also went through the Advanced course with honours. 

After a really fun and interesting weekend where we learnt a lot we are now working on new exercises
and are looking for new goals to go for.. .
