Iran is country situaded in the Middle East, almost at the center of Asia.
It is the seventeenth largest country in the world. Encompassing 1,648,198
square km in area. Iran is the biggest country in western Asia. In other
words, one twenty-fifth of the continent of Asia belongs to Iran,
of the total Iranian territory, more than 50% is of mountains terrian,
25%is desert and the rest fertile plain. The country has a common border
of 1280 km long with Iraq,and with northern countries of the region:
Armenia 40 km, Azarbaijan 767 km and Turkmenistan 1206 km. With Afganistan
it is 945 km, Pakistan 978 km and Turkey 470 km.
The population of Iran which was 18,9 million in 1956 reached 25,7 in 1966
at a growth rate of 3,1%. It reached 33,7 millon in 1976 and 49,4 in 1985 at
growth rate of 2,8% and 3,9% respectively. This population has become 65,7
million right now.
Climate is mostly arid or semiarid, subtropical along Caspian coast.
Country's natural resourses are petroleum, natural gas, coal, chromium,
copper,iron ore, lead, manganese, zink and sulfur.It has got 24 provinces
