No one has influenced R&B-singers all over the world like Chaka Khan.
Erykah Badu, Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston are good examples of soulqueens of today who have used songs from her repertoire on their road to fame. Worth mentioning though is that even if Chaka is extraordinary she wouldn’t have been so outstanding without the superb jazzfunksters of Rufus who backed her up in the beginning of her career. The instrumentalists of Rufus were, and still are a major influence for groove-oriented musicians.

The Swedish project “Tribute to Chaka Khan” is a ten piece strong group with high-skilled musicians capable of giving songs like And the melody still lingers on and Destiny the right treatment. This group is fronted by the outstanding soulsinger Anna Sise. Anna has her roots in jazz witch facilitates the complex vocal arrangements and dynamic phrasing that characterize the Chaka Khan songbook. She also shares the same power that makes you wonder if she really needs a microphone.

Even if you have to admit that there’s just one Rufus & Chaka Khan, this project takes you as close as it gets.
