1.0 Introduction

This file is a self-extracting file which will install the Windows NT

OpenGL display driver installation files into C:\ATI\SUPPORT\NT40

on your hard drive. The files may be copied to a floppy disk if

necessary for installation purposes.

This display driver is for use with 3D RAGE PRO, 3D RAGE II+ and

3D RAGE II based ATI products only.

The Graphics device drivers supplied here are for the Microsoft Retail

Release of the Windows NT 4.0 operating system.

2.0 Installation Notes

Procedure:

This driver is installed and configured using the standard Windows NT 4.0

configuration utilities.

1. Start Windows NT 4.0.

2. a) Select Run from the Start icon

card you are using, then click on the "OK" button. For the

ALL IN WONDER select "3D RAGE II+ DVD"

12. Windows NT will once again prompt for confirmation. All appropriate

files are then copied to your Windows directory.

Q1. What is OpenGL?

A1. OpenGL is a software interface for 3D graphics hardware that

allows programs to render 3D objects. Traditional use of OpenGL

is for high-end graphics rendering applications. Recently, however,

some game developers have shown interest in porting their games

over to OpenGL. GLQuake and Hexen II are example of games that

support this interface.

For more detailed information on what OpenGL is all about, please

visit http://www.opengl.org/Info/Info.html

Q3. What is an OpenGL ICD (Installable Client Driver) and an OpenGL MCD

(Mini Client Driver)? Which one of these does ATI supply under

Windows NT?

A3. There are 3 components to an OpenGL driver: a lighting mode,

a transformation mode and a rasterization mode. In an ICD

implementation all 3 modes or components are done by the vendor

(i.e. ATI). In an MCD implementation the lighting and

transformation modes are done by Microsoft, leaving the vendor

to concentrate on the rasterization mode. For 3D RAGE PRO,

3D RAGE II+ and 3D RAGE II products, a OpenGL MCD is available

for Windows NT 4.0.

Q5. Will there be support for future Microsoft operating systems?

(i.e. Windows NT 5.0, Windows 98)

A5. ATI is actively involved in driver development for future Microsoft

operating systems. ATI typically supplies drivers shortly after

the official release of the Operation System. Features and

availability of future drivers is generally unavailable until

very close to the operating systems ship date. For feature

requests and esquires, please contact either marketing@atitech.ca

or sales@atitech.ca.

Q6. What graphics functions are supported with the ATI OpenGL driver

for Windows NT?

A6. Stencil test, Polygon and line stippling, Anti-aliasing

points/lines/polygons, Polygon offset, Alpha test, Alpha blending,

Texture clamp mode, Gouraud Shading, Perspective correct texture

mapping, Z-buffering, Fog, Mip mapping, bilinear filtering and

modulation.

Most OpenGL functions in the OpenGL 1.1 spec are supported. However,

certain features such as Stencil test, Polygon and line stippling,

Anti-aliasing points/lines/polygons, Polygon offset, nicest fog,

are currently not accelerated by our hardware.

For the 3D RAGE II family, alpha test, trilinear, alpha blending

which uses destination alpha are also not accelerated.

Q11. How do I know if the Windows NT OpenGL drivers are installed?

A11. To determine whether you have an OpenGL driver look in your

system32 directory and look for a file called atimcd.dll

If you are on a WinNT 3.51 system then you should look to see

if you have files atiogl.dll and igxogl.dll. Installing the ATI

Windows NT driver automatically installs support for OpenGL.
