KEYS TO ASCENSION I
Written by Magnus Florin

If one has never heard Yes before and want something to start with, then Keys to Ascension is a very good choice. This was the case for me, when I borrowed it from a friend. I quickly returned it, so that I could gt my own copy. It was quite good, to put it mildly.

Yes, is the kind of band that never does anything bad really. It's also the kind of band that seem to enjoy writing mighty epic tracks. With the exception of Onward, the shortest track is 8:30. The rest that follows are 10:16, 20:32, 18:33, 19:14 just to name a few. For those who know Yes and their old classic songs, you see right now that this is a good album. All the best epics are here. There's also the cover of Paul Simons "America". All tracks are live except the two last, which are new studio recordings. These two are actually quite good too, and they show that Yes still can write beautful music. They tell the listener that the future may show some real goodies...

Best on the whole album is Steve Howe and hs acoustic guitar. This guy shoulld be seen as one of the best acoutic players ever. He's got a style that really can't be plagiarized, since it's such a wicked one. Only a madman can be a madman... This is also the best achievement I've ever heard from Jon Anderson.
