To tell you the truth I had higher expectations of this album. After the
great success with "Colour Temple", I thought the following album was
gonna be even better, or at least as good as it. Of course, I know people
who says the opposite, but the motivation to my opinion is simple. I
don't think that the songs in general are very good on "The God Thing",
even if the whole band is much more professional players on it. They've
gone into a little deeper progressive mood, which I don't really think
fits Vanden Plas as good as the old style. It's not a big change but
still.
There are some songs that are better that others though, and I would
like to mention tracks 2, 3, 4 and 6. As I said, this is my opinion and
I know that Ties, the guy who runs the Vanden Plas site, thought this
was the album of the year.
One more negative thing is the production, and I'm not talking about the
sound or heaviness. I just think that the voice of Andy Kuntz is much
too low. It should've been in front of everything else. In average, the
band sounds real good.
