VERY 'EAVY, VERY 'UMBLE
Written by Magnus Florin

Many of you may think that Uriah Heep don't belong in the genre of progressive, but I say they do. Their sound may not be comparable to Genesis, Yes or Dream Theater but the fact is that the ideas that come from the minds of the Heep song writers are sometimes very similar. Uriah Heep experiments a lot with strange and different time changes and rhythms. This album is from -70, and with that year in mind I couldn't help comparing it with the first Black Sabbath album. The sound is almost the same, with the difference of a keyboard...

Gypsy, the introducing track is an epic kind of track in the same spirit as any other progressive band. Just add the feel of early Black Sabbath to it. Personally I think that David Byron is a much better vocalist than Osbourne. Anyway, other great tracks on it are "Melinda", "I'll Keep On Trying" and "Wake Up". In all songs Heep gives a perfect demonstration of their mighy choirs, which is a demand that they do since there are five singers in the band (even if it's only noted four here). It's progressive rock n' roll with great vocals...

The last three tracks are bonus tracks for the CD release. Gypsy, in a single version since the original isn't very radio friendly. The two others are songs recorded by Spice, the bands' name before Ken Hensley entered.
