"Under the dark, eery chill of a lunar eclipse in late October,
Othello, captain of the Royal Army, has eloped with Desdemona, the
beautiful daughter of a prominent senator, shortly after promoting
Cassio to lieutenant.
Iago, friend and assistant to Othello, is consumed by anger and
jealousy over the marriage and the promotion, considering himself
much more worthy for both. Bent on revenge, he concocts a plan to
bring them all down while remaining their seemingly loyal and
trustworthy friend. In a pact with evil itself, he vows to possess
them one by one, confusing their words and misconstruing their
actions until ultimately Othello kills his wife and his lieutenant
in a jealous rage.
Succumbing to madness, and eventually caught and convicted of his
heinous crimes, Iago makes his last confession from a lonely cell
in the dungeon of the Queen's castle..."
Those words is the introduction to Thorne's (singer and keyboard
player of the band Soundscape) second solo album, but his fourth
career album. His first release was "America the Beautiful", a
rock opera he composed as his senior work. This is also a
conceptual rock opera adapted from William Shakespeare's Othello.
"Iago" featuring all the members of Soundscape + Richard Brooks on
violin, Rob Jackson who is doing Cassio's vocals, Angela Parrish
who is doing Desdemona's and Anthony Mills doing Othello's. Thorne
are doing the main character Iago by himself.
This is a fusion of prog rock and metal, influenced by Black
Sabbath, King Diamond, Ozzy Osbourne and Rush. "Iago" is equally
good as Soundscape's "Discovery". This is a brilliant masterpiece
too, with great arrangements. The vocals are very good. Thorne has
a very unique voice, rather exciting. On this album you'll get to
hear a beautiful female voice too, often accompanied by a lonely
piano.
The best tracks are "Shapeshifter Man", "Desdemona", "In The
Night", "Wine, Women, and Song", "Rain, Rain", "Into Forever",
"Unravel My Love", "Willow" and "Lies". Angela Parrish has a very
nice voice and I fell for every track singed by her.
The album is dedicated to Ozzy Osbourne.
