BLUE SYNDICATE
Written by Magnus Florin

This album and band may not fit properly into the progressive style, but Tamás plays in Omega and since I put them up, I decided to do the same with Tamás. This is the band Tamás, whatever that means. It's a solo album from Mr. Szekeres. Fits really into guitar music, but there are vocals too...

The album starts out with the mighty instrumental "Shuffle Overture", which is exactly the kind of track you think of just by looking at the name. Well, not quite right maybe. It is a shuffle though, but not only classical influenced, even if Tamás is a big fan of that kind of music. "Midnight Train" is one of the best rock songs ever written, according to me. It's got that minor pentatonic riff, just like it's supposed to be, and with the highlight in the chorus which is absolutely fantastic. The kind of song that really gets you going. Tamás has covered Steve Lukathers' "Hero With 1000 Eyes" really good. Some may think that Lukather is nothing but a soft ballad singer. The you should hear this version, with Edwin Balogh from Omega on vocals. He's a really good singer and usually does a real good performance, but on this album he's even better. Another cover is "Wheel of Fortune", by Tony MacAlpine, the master of neo-classical guitar music. The track before that is an etude from Mauro Guiliani. All these tracks really shows that Tamás is one of the greatest players of today. Ever since I heard him the first time, I've always counted him as one of my favourites.

Actually, this is one of the best records in my collection, with the arguement that there are no weak tracks on it. Some of them are more appreciated by me since I really don't like instrumental songs. Another great thing with Tamás is that he doesn't use those old Fender guitars with that soft and weak sound. No, no! He's using Gibson guitars, and one of the first things you'll see when looking at the booklet is...a Gibson case. And those are so beautiful...
