This is a concept album that tells the story of Apollo and
Dionysus, narrated by Karen Michalson accompanied by dark
progressive rock. It's telling a story of life and death, fallen
heroes, gods, myths and legends. Karen is the voice behind Point
of Ares, and she is responsible for all of the lyrics. And it is
the lyrics and the story that is the main subject on this release.
The music is only a way to illustrate the spoken poetry. And thank
god for that! The music has got a bad production with a blurred
sound that sometimes drags the attention from the story. The music
skills do leave a lot to wish for. They aren't exactly virtuosos
on their instruments and the guitar has got a very irritating
sound.
To draw any similarities with other groups would only be
misguiding. But if you have that in mind I would suggest that the
musical side of this release is similar to Rush and Genesis.
Unfortunately there's a lot of drum programming on this album
instead of real drums. I don't like drum machines in progressive
rock.
As shown on the 1996 release "Enemy Glory", Karen Michalson is a
good writer and this is surely a different way to expose her work.
But it's hard to overlook the musical faults.
You definitely shouldn't buy this album because of the music. The
story and the cover artwork though are rather nice.
