This is the debut CD from Oryzhein. The band is situated in Quebec, Canada. That is the French-speaking part of Canada, so all the lyrics are in French, which isn't bad at all. It makes the album even more interesting. Zappa, Genesis and King Crimson seem to be the main influences, especially King Crimson.
The music is varied, extremely varied. The first song is an organ based instrumental, a fairly good start. The second song has a jazzy feel to it. The music moves on creating interesting moods with instruments like sax, flute and bagpipe. Moving forward to the seventh song, which has a Latino sound to it. Really nice acoustic guitars performed by guitarist and singer Éric Dubé. All the tracks provide great drumming and strong keys.
The ninth track has an African sound to it and the tenth an Aboriginal. The album takes you on a ride to different cultures from all parts of the world, which is really cool. The album takes unexpected turns consistently throughout the whole album, and if you don't mind French lyrics this is a cool album from the debuting OryZhein.
