AWAKE
Written by Magnus Florin

Another power album from the band that everybody's talking about. With the mighty "Images & Words" in the backpack, and of course high demands, Awake sold platinum in Japan. I guess Dream Theater is the kind of band that never will produced one weak album.

It's only the introducing track that I really don't find very interesting, but the rest of the album is really good. It's alot different that Images... of course, but still with the same quality. What John petrucci did on this one was that he brought a 7-string Ibanez to the sound. This of course made the sound deeper and heavier. The most important tracks to remember from Awake are "Innocence Faded", "Voices", "The Silent Man", which is a acoustic guitar thing, "The Mirror", "Lie" and "Space-Dye-Vest". The last mentioned is Kevin Moores' solo contribution to the album, just like he did with "Wait for Sleep" on Images and Words. I count "Space-Dye Vest" as one of the most sensitive and emotionable songs ever written. This album was also the last album for Kevin to appear on. He voluntarily steeped out of Dream Theater becasue of musical differences and started working on his solo project, Chroma Key. Replaced by Derek Sherinian.
