This is a very challenging and interesting CD, put together by drummer and composer Hal Darling and his brother Bryce. They both are playing Percussion's, Piano, Keyboards and they are doing the Sequencing. There's no vocals or guitars here.
I don't know exactly how to categorise this music, but it's sure as hell Progressive. The only comparisons I can do are to a freaked out Samla Mammas Manna with a touch of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. You can also find similarities with Swedish composers as Johan Mowinckel, Sten Sandell and Simon Steensland. It's Symphonic-Progressive-Avant-Garde, filled with experimentation's, unpredictable counterrhythms, complex compositions and every second is filled with something new. My favourite tracks are "A Courting Rhythm", "Walking With Don" and "Snick-a-Snee".
Some might find this very inaccessible, but if you give this CD an honest chance, you probably would love every second of it. On top of it all, the sound is very clean and powerful. You don't want to miss out on this one that's for sure!
