In the world of domestic audio electronics there is not much room for optimizing musical performance. The marketing guy wants your design out NOW and the production team just loves finding that cheap component replacing your carefully selected device.
What is the result of all the commercial shortcuts ? Well, the audio performance in any given price range is far below what can be achieved with a home built unit at half the price.
