CBFW1U FAQs
1.What kind of software will come with CBFW1U ?
CBFW1U retail box includes following software.
-SONYDVCR.SYS (NTSC/PAL)
DVCAM device driver for Windows98.
-RSDVcap.exe This application software has following functions.
Preview video/sound data from DVCAM.
Preview video data from CCD camera.
Capture video/sound data from DVCAM.
Capture video data from CCD camera.
Playback video file.
Export video file to DVCAM.
*** This software uses Microsoft standard DV-AVI2 format video file.
-RSDVStill.exe Application software for capturing still image.
Capture still image from DVCAM.
Capture 30 images and select best one.
Capture to BMP format image file.
-CompressAVI.exe Utility software for video file format conversion.
Convert Microsoft DV-AVI2 format video file to another format video file
bi-directionally. As current existent video editing software
don't support MS DV-AVI2 format video file, you have to convert the format
of video file which is captured by RSDVCap before
editing. And after editing, if you would like to export it to DVCAM, you
have to re- convert video file to MS DV-AVI2 format video
file. Please note, file conversion will take a long time, sometimes over
a hour.
-Ulead VideoStudio3.0/DV
software treats MS DV-AVI2 format video file directly, you don't need convert
video file before and after editing.
2.Compatibility with Video Editing software.
You can use bundled VideoStudio3.0/DV without file format conversion. But
current existent Video editing software can not treat MS
DV-AVI2 format file. So, you need file format conversion both before and
after editing.
-Adobe Premiere5.1
You can't capture, control and export directly through Premiere.
To use it for video editing, you have to follow these steps.
Capture video/sound data stream from DVCAM and create video file with RSDVCap.
Convert the file to another format video file with CompressAVI.
Edit it with Premiere.
If you need export it to DVCAM, convert it to DV-AVI2 file again with CompressAVI.
Export it to DVCAM with RSDVCap.
-EditDV
You can't capture, control and export directly through EditDV.
To use it for video editing, you have to follow these steps.
Capture video/sound data stream from DVCAM and create video file with RSDVCap.
Convert the file to another format video file with CompressAVI.
Edit it with EditDV.
If you need export it to DVCAM, convert it to DV-AVI2 file again with CompressAVI.
Export it to DVCAM with RSDVCap.
-MediaStudio
You can't capture, control and export directly through MediaStudio. To
use it for video editing, you have to follow these steps.
Capture video/sound data stream from DVCAM and create video file with RSDVCap.
Convert the file to another format video file with
CompressAVI. Edit it with MediaStudio. If you need export it to DVCAM,
convert it to DV-AVI2 file again with CompressAVI. Export
it to DVCAM with RSDVCap.
-MGI VideoWaveII
You can't capture, control and export directly through VideoWaveII. To
use it for video editing, you have to follow these steps.
Capture video/sound data stream from DVCAM and create video file with RSDVCap.
Convert the file to another format video file with
CompressAVI. Edit it with MediaStudio. If you need export it to DVCAM,
convert it to DV-AVI2 file again with CompressAVI. Export
it to DVCAM with RSDVCap.
3.What is the restriction of DV export with CBFW1 ?
On some laptops, CBFW1(RSDVCap) can not export DV video file to DVCAM properly.
This restriction is caused by CardBus Bridge chip
and BIOS setting of the laptop computer. As some CardBus Bridge chip does
not support memory read cycle burst data transfer with default
BIOS setting, a lot of video frames may drop at exporting to DVCAM. We
do and will provide setup utility driver to improve this data transfer
capability. Please refer following notes.
You can check your CardBus bridge chip at Device Manager window. Open Device
Manager window and double click "PCMCIA socket"
i-con. Read out CardBus Bridge chip name and refer follows.
1.If you find "Texas Instruments......" wording, you can not export to
DVCAM properly. We will release and upload to our website
special setting utility to improve burst transfer capability of TI chips.
2.If you find "Toshiba Topic97......" wording, you can export to DVCAM
properly.
3.If you find "O2Micro......" wording, you can not export to DVCAM properly.
We will release and upload to our website special
setting utility to improve burst transfer capability of this chips.
4.If you find "Ricoh .... RL/RB5C478......" or "RL/RB5C475" wording, you
can not export to DVCAM properly with default setting.
You have to install special setting utility "CBRPSET.VXD". Refer to User
Guide(Rev.2.0) page 50. After installation, you can export
to DVCAM.
4.Does CBFW1/PCIFW1 work with Windows95, WindowsNT4.0 ?
No, CBFW1U/PCIFW1U requires true 32bit WDM driver. So it does not work
with neither Windows95 nor WindowNT4.0.
5.Will CBFW1/PCIFW1 work with Windows2000 ?
Yes, CBFW1/PCIFW1 will work fine. Windows2000 will include CBFW1/PCIFW1
driver and DVCAM driver. You will use IEEE1394
storage devices, printers, Digital Still cameras, DVCR, STB and DVCAM.
6.Can't start "New Hardware Wizard" or can't install SONYDVCR.SYS DVCAM driver.
1.Windows98 Second Edition
If you are using Windows98 Second Edition, DVCAM driver is already installed
in your system.
You don't need to install our DVCAM driver(SONYDVCR.SYS) any more. Please
verify it as follows
1-1)
Open "Device Manager" window. And be sure "1394 Bus Controller" i-con.
Double click it and be sure "NEC Firewarden
OHCI Compliant IEEE1394 Host Controller" string without any yellow "!"
mark or red "X" mark.
1-2)
Connect DVCAM to CBFW1U dongle/PCIFW1U and turn it on. A sandglass will
appear and disappear after 5 to 10 seconds.
Be sure "Imaging Device" i-con at "Device Manager" window. Double click
it and be sure "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR"
string without any yellow "!" mark or red "X" mark.
1-3)
Your DVCAM is detected and recognized properly.
2.Windows98
If the "Add New Hardware Wizard" did not start at the first time as described
in our User Guide(Rev.2.0) page 18, please follow these
steps.
2-1)
Open "Device Manager" window. And be sure "1394 Bus Controller" i-con.
Double click it and be sure "NEC Firewarden
OHCI Compliant IEEE1394 Host Controller" string without any yellow "!"
mark or red "X" mark.
2-2)
Connect DVCAM to CBFW1U dongle /PCIFW1U and turn it on. Be sure big yellow
"?" marked "Other Device" i-con at
"Device Manager" window. Double click it and be sure "1394\Ad2d&10001"
string .
2-3)
Select "1394\AD2D&10001" and double click "Properties" button.
2-4)
Select "Driver".
2-5)
Select "Reinstall Driver".
2-6)
"Update Device Driver Wizard" will start up. Select "Next" button.
2-7)
Select "Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now
(Recommended)" and "Next" button.
2-8)
Select "Specify a location" and type in "D:\NTSC\" and double click "Next"
button.
*** Type is proper CD-ROM drive character of your system. If you have "PAL"
model DVCAM, please type in "D:\PAL\".
2-9)
The Wizard will find "Sony DVCR" setup information file and driver, and
install them properly.
2-10)
Double click "Finish" button.
2-11)
You will hear "Beep" sound.
2-12)
Double click "Sound video and game controller" i-con. Be sure "Sony DVCR"
string .
2-13)
Your DVCAM is detected and recognized properly.
