Exception: Blood samples regarding rabies antibodies is not necessary if the dog after the basic vaccinations against rabies, has been blood sample tested as stated above and then been re-vaccinated within a period of one year (365 days) from the date of the last vaccination. This implies that a dog which has achieved an approved protective antibody level does not have to undergo additional blood sample testing if it is subsequently re-vaccinated yearly against rabies and the vaccination is performed within a time period of one year (365 days) from the date of the last vaccination.

NOTE: If more than a year has passed between the rabies vaccinations, the blood sample testing procedure must be performed at least 120 days after the vaccination. Exemption will not be granted if the vaccination interval is exceeded.

B. Leptospirosis*
The dog must vaccinated with an approved vaccine and the vaccination must not be older than one year (365 days) when imported to Sweden

C. Canine distemper*
The dog must be vaccinated with an approved vaccine and the vaccination may not be older than two years (730 days) when imported to Sweden. Please observe that vaccinations performed earlier than the age of eight weeks are not valid for entry into Sweden.

* Upon the first vaccination or upon delayed re-vaccination, the dog may only be imported into the country not earlier than 30 days after performed vaccination. If the dog receives two vaccinations at a one month interval, the 30 day period is counted from the first vaccination administered. The 30 day limit for import does not apply to dogs wich have been re-vaccinated against leptsopriosis within a period of one year (365 days) and against canine distemper within a period of two years (730 days) from the date of the last vaccination.

4. Compiled vaccination certificate: An official veterinarian in Sweden or any other EC/EFTA country shall, on the original form from the Swedish Board of Agriculture and with the dog's original vaccination certificate and blood sample testing results as supporting documents, certify that the ID-marked dog has been vaccinated and approved on the antibody testing as stated above. The validity of the certificate is limited by the vaccinations performed and must be renewed every year.

5. Veterinary health certificate: An official veterinarian in the country of dispatch (not in Sweden) shall, on the original form from the Swedish Board of Agriculture, certify that the dog is considered to be healthy and that it has been dewormed against tapeworm (Echninococcus granulosus/Echinonococcus multilocularis) with an approved preparation (see page 3). The certificate is valid for a period of 10 days after the veterinary examination and deworming and shall be presented to the customs authorities at the point of entry. To prevent tapeworm from spreading into Sweden the dog should be dewormed one additional time by the owner after entering Sweden (e.g. using Droncit). (If the dog has only remained in Denmark, Finland, Norway or Sweden for a period not less than one year before import it does not have to be dewormed against tapeworm)

Upon shorter trips from Sweden to Denmark or Finland for a period of not more than ten days, a veterinary health certificate is not necessary. A valid permit and a compiled veterinary certificate must however be carried in the usual manner. A written owners assurance is always requested, i. e. the animal owner assures that the dog has only remained in Denmark or Finland during the period in question.
A six-week certificate as an alternative to the veterinary health certificate may be granted to dogs commuting between Sweden, Denmark, Finland or Norway and wich is resident of any of these countries. The certificate shall be issued by an official veterinarian and is valid for a period of six weeks from the date of issue. During the period of validity the dog may only remain in any one of these countries wich shall be evident from the owner assurance. The six-week certificate is not valid for import into Norway.

PLEASE OBSERVE:
- that Your application will only be processed when a receipt or receipt copy of the paid amount (SEK 400) arrives to the International Traffic Veterinary Control. Do not forget to state Your name, address, animal breed, ID-number, country of dispatch as well as time departure in the letter or telefax You send, including the receipt. Based on this information we will issue Your permit.

- that the time of validity for the compiled vaccination certificate and the registered period for import is not the same. The registration is valid for a period of one year from the date of issue however the validity of the compiled vaccination is restrained by the time of validity of the vaccinations.

- that the conditions regarding import of dogs and cats are stated in the regulations from the Swedish Board of Agriculture (SJVFS:52) on the import of pet animals.
