Houston Can You Sing 10/28/1981 VGP Never Too Old To Rock 'n Roll, LA 10/11/1981 VGP I love the 81 tour shows I have..Hampton, Phoenix, Seattle...and I'd like to get more. Is the Houston show a good or at least decent soundboard? The LA show is particularly interesting to me, because I attended that show, and it was my first Stones concert. Is the recording ok, say 7.5 or higher on the Sticky FIngers Journal scale? Thanks! I don't agree here. If you don't like this release it doesn't make any sense to say that it's a rip off because this is just YOUR opinion. It would have been a rip off if VGP put on the sleeve that these tracks are excellent soundboard quality. However this IS a soundboard release (I have to admit that there are better ones) but 8 tracks out of 14 haven't been available before and the Toronto tracks were only available in audience quality so that makes a total of ten new soundboard tracks. There ain't much difference in the three mixes of Fingerprint file but I still do think that this is an interesting release for the average VGP buyer. Blaine Mullins" > Subject: Boogie with Stu This is one of those little things that is right under your nose, and all along it takes a while to notice. I was dusting off my old Led Zep LPs for the winter (yes, Zep is a seasonal thing for me, and every winter I soak up the sounds of Page, Plant, Bonzo, and Baldwin) and I JUST noticed that the track "Boogie with Stu" from PHYSICAL GRAFFITI refers to (duh!) Ian Stewart. He co-wrote it and plays some exceptional keyboards (certainly not his best) with Zeppelin. I also noticed many of the songs recorded by Zeppelin were recorded on either the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio or Ronnie Lane's Mobile Studio. HOUSES OF THE HOLY was almost entirely recorded at Mick's Stargroves estate. Just a little tid-bit I thought some of you may or may not know. Slowly rocking on, Blaine --------------------SFJ-------------------- From: beat.friePress@gmx.de Subject: SFJ - first US / Con Le Mie Lacrime Hey, Fingers! Stones' first US appearance on air was 3 June 1964 at Hollywood Palace TV show - after their first US 7" "I wanna be your man" and "Not fade away" (Jan/Mar '64) didn't make chart impressions. After handeling their first TV interviews with Les Crane comfortably, they went off to L.A. the next day to record two tracks for TV - "Not fade away" and "I just want to make love to you", the latter being the B-side of forthcoming US single "Tell me". The June 3rd show was a compendium of clowns, cowboys and other entertainers, it was hosted by Dean Martin. As editor Martin Elliott puts it, Dean "Gimme a lil' drink" Martin delighted US viewers with snide comments about Stones/Beatles hair-pulling contests and, prior to a commercial break, he announced "Now don't go away, you wouldn't leave me with these Rolling Stones, would yo?" The Stones were at least slightly antagonized, but performed their second number "Not fade away" with professional gusto in front of limted teen screamers. Dean Martin gave the Stones their first taste of US publicity and Andrew Oldham is said to have loved every perverse minute. Bootlegs of June 3rd "Not fade away" (w/ Dean Martin hosting) are in existance - hard to listen to, just like the Ed-Sullivan-trax. "CON LE MIE LACRIME", italian version of "As tears go by", is said to have been recorded September 6th/7th 1965 at RCA's in Hollywood. Backing track alters with slightly more orchestration. It has been re-released on Decca vinyl in spring '80 pre-EMOTIONAL RESCUE as "COLLECTOR'S ONLY". Studio titles range from 63 to 69 are "I want to be loved", "Fortune Teller" (I), "Poison Ivy" (II), "I've been loving you too long", "Con Le mie .", "Memo from Turner" (II) and "You Can't always get ." single version w/o the Choir. B-Side contains (proposed) live material from '65 - like the UK "Got live if you want it" EP from June 11 1965. Trax are intro "we want the stones" running into "Everybody needs somebody to lovew", "Pain in my heart", Route 66" "I#m moving on", "I'm alright", "Get off of my cloud" and another "Everbody needs .". Original EP lacked the latter two. In November '66, London released "Got live if you want it" in the US. Contains "thumb", "cloud", "Lady Jane", "Not fade away", ".loving you too long", "Fortune Teller", "last time", "nervous breakdown", "Time is .", "I'm alright", "Have you seen your mother, ." and "Satisfaction". This album differs from UK EP. Wyman once claimed, it was studio outtake footage with live screaming put over. So long, mark allison (sources: M. It's so good to see Keef smiling , singing and harmonizing with Mick J. "dead flowers" While watching all this I could not stop thinking about the MicK T interview where he states something like, keef didn't do much recording on sticky finger. It gave me a new appreciation to hear these songs being played live. So often in these polls the Beatles are always the best band of all time and "Imagine" or "Hey Jude" is the best song of all time and that really pisses me off. I know the Beatles were good but the Stones always were, still are and always will be the best band of all time. I'm trying to get my mates at university to like the stones but it's like banging your head against a brick wall. they can't see past the Beatles. anyway, enough moaning and let's hope that the Stones release some new material soon and do another tour with an acoustic set. i've only been a stones fan for a year now but i love them to bits and can't stop listening to them. i've only seen one show-Wembley, June 11th 1999 but i wish that i'd seen more because they were just amazing. next tour i'm going to as many as i can afford! keep on rocking, Chris. --------------------SFJ-------------------- From: CUB > Subject: WEEK 29/38 Change takes place Sunday eve CET. No wonder they looked so burned-out: On a swing through L.A., the Stones hobnobbed up and down the Sunset Strip--at such chichi drinkeries as the Whiskey Bar and the Viper Room--like the bad boys they once were.
