Pictures sleeves have some of the best photos/artwork for the band, often better than the albums themselves. The picture sleeve is the one photo for a particular song (usually on photo but they do wierd things in different parts of the world - under who's athourity I do not know). A few of my favorite Stones photos are Picture sleeves like the Jumping jack Flash and Miss You sleeves. Do you know them? They are great pictures! It was 1978. I was collecting Rolling Stones p/s (picture sleeve) singles. I went into the record store and there was the Beast of Burden sleeve. I didn't strike me as a great picture sleeve but I definitly wanted it for my collection. I reached into my pocket and saw funds were a little low. although I could afford the new Stones single with p/s, I decided to wait until Friday when I would get paid. Friday came and back to the record store I went. No Beast of Burden! I went to several stores. The Beast of Burden picture sleeve was recalled with no explination! Over the years people have said the artwork with the lion sitting diractly on a naked ladies croch area was too suggestive and had to be pulled. I thought the Black and Blue ad with the tied-up brused young female would be far more objectionable to the general public and that was not recalled! It never was reshelved. Now that sleeve with the record sells for thousands of dollars! It wasn't untill yesterday that I found out there was sheet music with the Beast of Burden artwork. you may view this for a limited time at: Skippy --------------------SFJ-------------------- From: "Tony & Remi Stewart" > Subject: Bent/Rot Hi Stickies, I hope everybody had a good holiday. Was anyone else a victim of the Spam Attack by a usually pretty good company. We were getting about 500 e-mails a day. No good. To the Sticky asking about the flick "Bent". Jagger's role is very predominant, but just not that good. It beats that atrocity "Freejack" of course, but in the days of "Performance" Jagger was still able to be imagined as someone else. It's kind of an ironic title cause he really is playing a character that resembles the way fans thought he really lived. In reality he was of course drawing just on the whole Swinging London scene; a little Brian, a little Keith and a lot of Anita. In "Bent" even the performance at the club is not THAT convincing. Jagger could still make a hell of a pretty drag queen. His character is not supposed to be pathetic, but very glamorous, so I thought Jagger just came off looking old. His character although, not the one with the most scenes, epitomizes the story. But nowadays Jagger shouldn't act anymore. He had his shot years ago, but today you can't get over the fact that you are just watching Jagger. He doesn't make you believe he is someone else. What I think ironic is that (I know we had the big "Voodoo Brew and Stew" scare) our Boots overall are holding up pretty well, But we are getting rot on the Symphonic Virgin release, we had "Stripped" CD-ROM plain old not work and had a lot of people spend big money on the Voodoo Lounge CD-ROM,which only plays in certain PCs and that only after treatment. The company that released it bowed out. I personally received a letter from Virgin that apologized and basically said that"Stripped" was never going to work as a CD-ROM and "Voodoo Lounge" was severly flawed. So hats off to Cool Cool Hand. --------------------SFJ-------------------- From: James Karnbach Subject: In response to your message re: the Trivia Quiz question - Songs Played Live by All Three #2 Stones guitarists - Jones, Taylor & Wood. A Downing Street spokeswoman said media reports claiming Blair had decided against a knighthood for Jagger because the rock star's high profile love life jarred with the government's family values drive were ``not true.'' The specialty of the restaurant is Steak de la. Oscar Wilde, which is what he ate on the night he died. Now Mick Jagger is not Oscar Wilde. And if Chuck Berry is, it was Mick Jagger who stayed at L'Hotel for a week or so, spending time while Bianca was expecting the last days of her expectancy. Bobby Keys was there too, just passing time on his way back to London to finish his album, just passing wasted through the lobby in his buffalo blanket jacket, just passin' through mistah . . . . "France is alright, as long as you can get out," Jagger said, competing with the Boulez being pumped over the bar's sound system. "Like I've been in France longer than I've ever stayed in England. There's fuck-all live music here, there's Jacques Brel and electronic music. Even the accordion players are dead." Just last spring, Jagger wasn't sounding keen at all on an American tour. But the idle months in Antibes have made changes. "I think Mick Taylor wants to play on stage with somebody. I think he's a bit frustrated. We're not touring all the time: I don't want to tour all the time. So I don't know what he wants to do. And I'm not the only one talking about going to America. Mick does; Bill Wyman's gone for a vacation. Charlie, he's in the country with his sheep and horses, that's what he does. Gad, the houses are really a hell of a long way away. "Now I want to go to America and look around. Go to L.A. Maybe Texas. Nooooo, Orleans. Then Florida. I really miss having things to do - well, anyway . . . last winter there were all these sessions. A lot was going on. Now it's nothing. I guess you get what you put in. Like 1 caret be contributing to something if I'm not there, but even in the clubs, I don't know. Is it in America? "Christ. Do you wanna drink? Where's a waiter? S'il vous plait! Hey, see voo play, y'all out there." He turns back to the interview. "We've not finished the album, we've just cut 20 tracks. Since July. Plus we've got about 28 others." That's all the Stones do all day now, make music in Keith's basement at his fabulous mansion on the Mediterranean Coast? "Yeah. The studios are not that great. OK, but not really good. It's terrible. I don't like it. Like it's too hot in the summer. I can't hear anything down there. We cut some nice things, but we'll mix it at Island or someplace." The waiter brought the wine. "I hate to talk about what we're doing anymore. Like the union in America is giving us such a hassle. The only way they find out what we're doing is through ROLLING STONE. I'll have to ask your co-operation. I mean, we can't record in America. They've sent us warning letters and all that. They've never done that to anyone else. Last time we were there they tried to fine Leon Russell $5000 for writing an arrangement for us. Legally, English bands aren't supposed to record there, but they all do." The American tour then? "Yeah, we've had hundreds of ideas on how to do this tour. Like we were thinking of doing it in a caravan. In coaches and do all sorts of places we wouldn't normally get to. Like . . . the South. Or just go by bus for the first ten days to get it all together. Some areas. You can't cover the entire country in a Greyhound bus, not with a big show, you're just wasting your time. Somebody gets stuck in a restaurant and that's a drag. "Or we thought of getting a regular back- up band. That's an old spade tradition. Say, keyboards, brass and chicks. Nine pieces maybe, so we can have four other singers as well as using the brass and chicks ourself. The Stones have already been in touch with the Memphis Horns. And there are four other singers who are really good. I like Stevie Wonder very much. I've always admired him. But, I don't know. Whether it's right or wrong, he's always playing in clubs,, Well, not clubs, but . . . niteries. You know? Or there could be one or two people whove never been seen by white audiences. You could take Little Milton and Bobby Bland. Plus there could be some younger people as well. Get a nicely balanced show.,, But where do the Stones play? "In most towns there's a large ballroom which holds 5-6000. Which I consider a large ballroom. Either we're going to play in a club with 500 people and actually play or we're going to play really big crowds. Playing to 5000 is really nonsensical; it's not intimate. I mean, the best I've ever played has been in, a club, but I haven't done that in ages. So I really don't know what to do anymore, I've forgotten. I got into the thing very early on in how to play the big halls and I know how to do it. It's very exaggerated. Like, before public address systems, politicians used to make very exaggerated gestures. The waiter brought some more red wine, plus the bill. And L'Hotel is expensive. You know the kind of joint: $20 breakfasts and that. Thinking of money, hows Allen Klein? "We tried to be nice about it, and friendly, for about a year now, 18 months. I mean, I really hate lawsuits, but he won't . . . y'know. He was supposed to pay me a certain amount of money per annum and he hasn't for years. I mean, you can't go on asking people, so eventually we had to do it like this. It's not big business, it's just that I don't have much money. Really. In actual fact. He just got us into a terrific mess and he's not a very nice person. I don't think he's genuine, Who cares? Allen Klein can jump in the East River for all I care, but he does owe me some money. "Who cares? This new album is fucking mad. There's so many different tracks. It's very rock 'n' roll, y'know. I didn't want it to be like that. I'm the more experimental person in the group, you see I like to experiment. Not go over the same thing over and over. Since I've left England, I've had this thing I've wanted to do. I'm not against rock 'n' roll, but I really want to experiment." Electronic music? "Well that's the obvious thing to do, but I don't know if that's more valid than anything else. The real experiment is what you want to say. You can express a very freaky or experimental idea in a strict framework, or you can express a very trite, boring, oftrepeated idea within an experimental framework. "The new album's very rock 'n' roll and it's good. I think rock 'n' roll is getting a bit . . . I mean, I'm very bored with rock 'n' roll. The revival. Everyone knows what their roots are, but you've got to explore everywhere. You've got to explore the sky too." --------------------SFJ-------------------- From: "Flashpoint" > Subject: Lyrics: Might As Well Get Juiced Might As Well Get Juiced (Jagger/Richards) If you really want to rip up your mind If you want to take the lid of your life If you want to reach on down in the sump To last dregs off the camel's back hump And the wolves are howling Right at your door And the vultures want to tear off some more Your flesh is burning right off your bones Your children kick you out of your home If you really want to tear up your mind If you really want to get yourself blind Might as well get juiced Might as well get juiced Hey Mama What's this crazy game of sevens, eights and nines I can't keep up with you baby I'm gonna give you such a piece of my mind When I get around to it 'Cause Honey I'm abused Might as well get juiced If you really want to melt down your mind Crank it up to straight double time If you really want to have some fun Spit right down on everyone If you got the strenght to scream out "Hell why" The wheels of life are passing you by You might as well get juiced Might as well get juiced Some people like to get high on love Buss it off with alcohol Give me a little taste of those fumes I need a little boost I tell you the sweet things in life How am I going to survive I might as well get juiced I might as well get juiced I might as well get juiced A little bit confused --------------------SFJ-------------------- From: Greg Shaffer > Subject: [Fwd: Mr Jimmy Lyric] From: Ross > Subject: Re: Mr Jimmy Lyric I was standing in line with Mr. Jimmy And man, did he look pretty ill We decided that we would have a soda, My fav'rite flavor was cherry red I sing this song to my friend, Jimmy, And he said one word to me and that was "dead" Or close to that! If he didnt like the song he would say "dead". Hence.. Jimmy Miller produced the Stones from Beggars Banquet through Goats Head Soup...not a bad legacy! It's because we're both English", said Mick about Elton John, who wanted to join on Honky Tonk Women but stayed during the whole show. Mick later introduced him as 'Reg from Watford'. This CD features the complete show in excellent audience quality. Really too bad most of Mick's in between comments are edited out. Excellent show, one of the best Wood era Midnight Ramblers IMHO. Also nice are the bonus tracks from Milwaukee 6/8/75 (Sure the One You Need, Heartbreaker, Luxury), in rather bad quality. This title is a must for all fans of the '75 tour. We Hope You Like This One (VGP 235) This title (with excellent photos by Bob Gruen on front and back sleeve) starts off with an amazing version of Luxury, for the first time ever complete in soundboard quality. The source is Toronto, June 17. This version was available before on the rare bootleg vinyl single Little S&M (TP-001), but VGP seemed to have found a non-vinyl source. The CD continues with three different mixes of Love You Live's Fingerprint File (Toronto, June 17). Mix one is the long, unedited version, mix two is a slow version of mix one, and mix doesn't differ to my ears to mix one. The Heartbreaker and It's Only Rock and Roll from Wahsington. It's Only Rock and Roll starts off with some sound problems, but these are gone after 30 seconds. Great versions mainly caused by a completely stoned and bored to death Mick. He clearly refuses to sing properly! In between songs a negligible I've Been Loving You Too Long can be heard. Track 7 to12 are from London, Earl's Court, May 26 1976 in excellent stereo soundboard quality. The CD rounds off with Hot Stuff and Fool to Cry, which were available before in roughly the same quality on Paris Par Excellence (VGP 147). These versions sounds like they were taken of a video. I find this very amusing considering half the stories you hear about English politicians, and there several sordid affairs. And I also find it a laugh that they give Elton John,a well known and publicized homosexual,a Knighthood, and yet Mr Tony Blair had no problems with his honour.I'm not saying that what Mick did was right, but you can't tell me that all the people who receive a Knighthood are saints?Honestly.
