San Fransisco or Frisco as the people in California says. So what about this city? well as you all know it's situated north of LA, it has the Golden Gate, Pier 39, Alcatraz and the most hilly roads in America. So this is something about my trip special to San Fransisco since our YFU group was the only one who had the possibility to go to cali.
Our trip started February 5th 1998 at Stewart Airport. We were supposed to change planes in Cincinnatti and then go to S.F. So we started out with a flight time at 1hr, then in Cincinnatti we discovered that our plane was about to take off soon so we all ran over to the other gate which was quiet far away and got on the other plane. Now we had all the time to calm down because now we had to fligh for 8hrs!! When we finally arrived we were all so excited but we still had to get the rental cars and find the place where we were to stay, and since none of us had been there before we took out the maps and the directions and started to drive. We were all together 14 kids who went so it was packed in the car with all that luggage too. After we had driven wrong a few times we finally got to one of the hostfamilies, it was now pretty late, counting in eastern time, while in western time it was not since Cali is 3hrs behind NY time. Now most of us were abit tired after the trip and all, so we split up and the other 8 people went to the other family while me, Julia, Bente, Jenny, Natalie, and a few more stayed at the first family's house. This was pretty nice since the family itself had an exchangestudent from Germany, and later we also got to know that the family have had around 12 other students before.
On our trip in S.F we visited the Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 down the harbour. This was really fun, when we had parked the cars we decided a time to meet and then we were off. The first thing that me, Julia, Natalie, Bente and Jenny found was a sort of bungy jump set- up. Then you held on to some staps on the ropes on the sides and just jumped up into the air. It looked really fun and a few of us tried it. Then we went on to Pier39, since I'd just heard about it I didn't expect that much, which had some stores, galleries and alot of restaurants and then of course the ocean view. A few in our group went out to Alcatraz, the big famous prison, while the rest of us might have wanted too but it took too long and was quiet expensive. But from the Golden Bridge we could all see Alcatraz out there in the middle of the water. Golden Bridge was probably what we all had expected, it was high, red and long, longer than we'd expected and none of us went all the way to the other side and back. But still it was nice to say that I have walked on the Golden Bridge, something I won't be able to do in a long time. Then me, Natalie, Marc, Julia and Bente was involved in this little incident that I'd rather NOT talk about since it's really embarassing but it ended up that we got to ride in a SFPD policecar down to the wharf again which was pretty cool. Then we drove up to the Red Woods where you can see trees that are red and really tall and wide.
Both in LA and in S.F we got to meet two other exchangestudents from Germany and Finland, so Julia and Marc was happy and Jenny about that. Both students were really nice and we had alot of fun with one of them in LA.
