Spocks Beard - The Light

The first release from Spocks Beard, was much better than I expected. I had heard about them and some of their music before, and thought that this album was not gonna be a yet as developed thing. But to my happiness I was wrong, cause "The Light" sounds also like something that for sure would appear as one of hte best releases of the 90's.

Vocalist, Keyboardist and songwriter Neal Morse is already here full ahead with his attittude vocals, and magnificiant melodies. Spocks Beard has tendencies of shifting moods a lot in their songs, and this album shows this very clearly. Just take a look at "The Water", in the part named "FU/I'm Sorry". In this section Neal is so....hmm, not aggressive but he's pretty mad, that's for sure. The lyric goes "...you dont give a shit about anything, fuck you, I don't know why you even bother to live, fuck you..." . And the the minute after he's as calm as the wind in the I'm sorry-part. Neal is not just another rock vocalist if you ask me. He never sounds like hte typical rock or metal singer, but instead he struggles to sound different....

I can't point out any favourite stuff from this album, well except for the FU/I'm Sorry part, but this is an album that should be taken as one. Not just one single track or so (they're quite long), but as an epic track, even though it's an album.

Get this album quick, and feel the wondeful YES-psychadelic tunes of Spocks Beard!
