Mobile and base station configuration

The Barrett 900 transceivers is a state of the art, 125 Watt HF transceiver designed specifically to satisfy the long distance communications requirements of government, private organisations and individuals operating in remote and rugged environments. Utilising the "free to air" nature of HF communications spectrum the Barrett 950 transceiver provides remote communications with no ongoing call charges.

940 HF SSB Portable Transceiver

The development of the 940, utilising Barrett's 900 series transceiver technology and military packaging has resulted in a realistically priced, fully featured portable/manpack transceiver that fills the void between limited function portables and full military specified manpacks. To provide the flexibility in deployment that is vital for successful field operations, the Barrett 940 can be used in any number of configurations. In a manpack configuration the 940 is self-contained with a clip on battery pack and is fitted into a comfortable padded canvas backpack. In this configuration it can be supplied with a rapid deployment single wire end fed broadband with an efficiency that far exceeds that of the traditional whip antenna.For temporary base station or mobile operation, an optional power lead which includes a cigarette lighter type plug and clip leads, plugs into the front panel allowing operation from a 12 volt DC source such as a vehicle battery or AC mains power supplies. The BNC RF connector on the front of the transceiver can connect to a tactical tuned dipole antenna, base station broadband antennas or manual tapped vehicle whips.
Rugged construction. An extruded aluminium chassis combined with a rugged weather resistant glass reinforced nylon front panel has been designed to withstand harsh and hostile environments. Extensive vibration testing and temperature cycling has proved the Barrett 940 will operate in the world's toughest environments.

980 GMDSS and Non GMDSS Marine HF Transceivers

The Barrett 980 series of HF marine transceivers are state of the art, economical 100 Watt units designed and built to meet the exacting requirements of GMDSS installations. To satisfy a broad range of requirements, three versions of the Barrett 980 are available for maritime operations.
The Barrett 980E meets the requirements for Class E installations and is fitted with an internal Digital Selective Calling module which is capable of generating and decoding all Class E DSC messages.
The Barrett 980A satisfies the full GMDSS Class A requirements when used with DSC/NDBP consoles. If you have a future requirement for GMDSS operations, the Barrett 980A can be used now as a stand alone transceiver and upgraded for GMDSS Class A or Class E operations when required by statutory regulations. For compulsory radio fits which do not require GMDSS compliance, Barrett Communications also offer a range of standard marine packages based on the Barrett 980.
All 980 marine packages include the transceiver, Barrett 911 automatic antenna tuner with interconnect cables and mounting hardware and are available in local control, remote control and dual control configurations.

Barrett produces a wide range of base antennas as well as mobile and portable. Below is shown a selection of different variants.

ANTENNA TUNERS

911 Automatic Antenna Tuner

The 911 Automatic Antenna Tuner is designed for operation in both marine mobile and land base station installations. Housed in a fully weatherproof enclosure the 911 will tune long wire antennas, wire loop antennas or whip antennas over a frequency range of 2 to 30 MHZ. Tuning is rapid, typically less than two seconds the first time RF is applied, either whilst the operator is talking or when the "Tune" control is activated on the transceiver.

910 Automatic tuning mobile antenna

The Barrett 910 is an automatic tuning mobile antenna, designed to interface with Barrett 500 and 900 series transceivers. Providing a frequency coverage of 2 to 30MHz, the Barrett 910 features rapid tuning (typically less then 1.5S) and low power consumption. High radiation efficiency and accurate tuning are assured by maximising antenna current (not minimising the VSWR) on every tune. The Barrett 910 antenna incorporates a wideband amplifier that is activated in receive mode to enable channel scanning. Due to its rugged RF design, the Barrett 910 antenna can also be used with high duty cycle applications such as the Barrett 923 fax and data system.

923 Mobile or field station

Barrett 923 HF fax and data systems give new power to HF radio providing HF network stations access to Internet email and fax facilities either directly via the international telephone network through common email systems such as CCMail and MSmail.
Barrett 923 fax and data systems are ideal for the provision of full telecommunications facilities within organisations that have many remotely sited operations. After the initial capital equipment cost, which is comparable with current satellite systems, there are no ongoing time charged costs.
923 Base station configuration

The 923 software package provides a simple interface between HF network stations and the international telecommunications network. In its simplest form the 923 software can be configured to only allow the user access to a mail box. The 923 mail box operates in a similar manner to those found in currently available email packages. Configuring all its features the 923 system provides many other facilities such as image capture, editing and transfer facilities, real time "keyboard chat mode", voice communications and direct file transfer facilities.
Modulation formats vary from simple robust FSK to multi-level differential phase modulation and two level amplitude modulation modes, producing actual uncompressed raw data transfer rates of up to 2000 bps. Note:- this raw data rate is actual data throughput with all modem overheads removed. Sophisticated compression algorithms within the Barrett 923 operating software produce compressed on-air data rates of between 4,000 bps and 20,000 bps for text files and up to 200,000 bps for image files. In real terms this means a typical fax page can be transmitted, error free, in less than 3 minutes and a text file, with up to seven pages full of text, in less than a minute.

977 HF GPS Vehicle tracking package

The Barrett 977 HF Tracking System is an Automatic Vehicle Locating and Tracking Package which utilises the Navstar Global Positioning System (GPS) and an HF network consisting of a central control station and mobiles. The computer based tracking system, located at the control station, automatically polls vehicles or vessels within the HF network, retrieving their position using a standard selcall format based on CCIR493-2. The position of the vehicle or vessel being tracked is then displayed on a computer based map.
The control station consists of a PC loaded with the Barrett 977 HF Vehicle Tracking Software connected to a Barrett 550/950 transceiver. Vehicles or vessels to be tracked are fitted with a Barrett 550/950 Transceiver equipped with an optional GPS receiver, which can be fitted inside the transceiver; or an external GPS unit.
Features:
Monitors, tracks, follows or finds vehicles on maps stored on the control station computer. Reports alarm conditions immediately upon receiving a distress signal issued by any vehicle or vessel and automatically displays its location on the appropriate map. Warns when vehicles or vessels approach a user defined exclusion zone. Vehicle or vessel positions can be recorded for later playback and analysis. Provision to read and update textual information about specific locations on the map (way points). Waypoints are colour coded dots which are placed on the map by the user. Provision to retrieve and store textual information about every vehicle or vessel in the fleet. Displays the current mobile position as an icon (various sizes), continuous track or a trail of points. Clicking on a trail point with button 2 will display the Selcall ID, date, time, latitude and longitude. Telemetry displays the mobile selcall number, speed, distance, calculated arrival time and bearing to a selected destination, which can be a location on the map or the location of another mobile.

961 HF Phone patch

The Barrett 961 HF telephone interface (phone patch) interfaces a Barrett 530, 550, 930 or 950 transceiver to the telephone network, allowing HF stations to be connected to subscribers on the telephone network and visa versa.

960 HF Telephone interconnect

The Barrett 960 telephone interconnect will make your HF network stations extensions of the international telephone network. The 960 telephone interconnect provides a fully automated interface between the international telephone network and a HF network. Stations in a HF network equipped with selective call systems based on CCIR 493 can call up to 98 numbers that can be stored in the 960 telephone interconnect. Stations fitted with a "Telcall" facility, based on selective call format CCIR 493, can direct dial any telephone number on the international telephone network. Telephone subscribers can dial into the 960 telephone interconnect from anywhere on the international telephone network and call any station on the HF network. The Barrett 960 telephone interconnect provides full network management facilities including multiple telephone access levels for HF stations, call logging and remote supervision by dial up computer links. Fully automatic operation. Recordable greeting and instruction messages. Allows the greetings and instructions to be in any language - stored in non-volatile EEPROM.

974 HF integration system

The Barrett 974 system is designed to make major HF turnkey projects simple to design, install and maintain. Whilst the main emphasis of the 974 system is towards fully automated HF telephone interconnected base stations, using multiple frequencies, with remote transmitters and receivers, the sub-assemblies that comprise the system can be used to manage many other configurations. Barrett Communications, using 974 sub-assemblies, can design turnkey systems tailored to exact client requirements. Features that can be offered within turnkey systems include:
