The start of it all.....

In 1956-1957 I met Whippets for the first time in my life. I had almost daily contact with those dogs and six years later I began to work as a kennel-maid at the Tundrans Kennels. It was a large breeding-kennel with several litters of Whippets and Samoyeds every year. The kennels also had many youngsters and adult dogs of both breeds. Their imported breeding stock included, among others, Ch Nagrom Aorangi by Hillgarth Shah, Int Ch Wingedfoot Cream Cracker by Ch Wingedfoot Marksman of Allways , Ch Treetops Jenny Wren, Ch Speedwell Barry and his litter-sister Speedwell Elsa all by Ch Bellavista Barry.
I think my idea of a Whippet was highly influenced by my favourites at Tundrans, "Cracker" and "Rennie", both of them beautiful silver fawns with the most delightful temperaments.
Tundrans Countess became my first very own Whippet. She carried blood from both N. Aorangi and Cracker but was inbred to Ch Fleet Foots Ginni ( by Ch Warrior King of Sagaland ). Tessa was 49 cms, which was up to size for those days. Her best show-result was second open challenge with certificate quality, res-CACIB and best bitch-2. She produced one litter in 1965, (consisting of 5 dogs!), sired by her grandfather Ch Nagrom Aorangi. The litter carried Tundrans prefix. Three dogs were shown once or twice each, always in the cards.
