I have my Palmpilot in the map folder of my handlebar bag. This way it is protected from weather and is visible.
The palmpilot can also be operated through the plastic, at least I can start the application and turn it on and off.
I have also been in contact with Dan Royea, He's working with a manufacturer of a waterproof protection for the palmpilot, Take a look at his ideas.
