Magnus Danielsson - bass
Magnus was born in Växjö in 1964 and he plays the bass in Soulflyer. He started playing the recorder and took guitar lessons when he was 10 years old. - ”It was more fun to play the guitar. I remember playing ”Smoke on the water” on the lower e-string over and over again.” He then played in bands with schoolmates and when he began high school he formed the band Black Hammer - a trio ”We where playing all kinds of classic hard rock covers, and the drummer was left handed and played really hard”.
It was in 1987 that Magnus traded his white Fender Stratocaster guitar for a Fender Jazz bass and started to play on four strings instead of six. He joined a band called Pyramid and their first gig was at a Swedish rock music contest: Rock-SM. Magnus was rewarded as the best bass player at Rock-SM. Pyramid then started to play Deep Purple covers and they did some shows in Sweden. They also played at five DP-conventions in Hovmantorp, 25 km east of Växjö. ”The band switched members almost every month, always great musicians, but the band lacked in continuity”.
After having been playing in Pyramid for five years Magnus then formed Muddy Road in 1992. They recorded one CD single called ”Introspective”, and toured around Sweden. The singer left the band and Muddy Road changed their name into Plain with the guitar player on vocals. Plain recorded one track that was released on a sampler CD. During the time in Muddy Road Magnus also played the bass in Slide on this, and it was in this band that he first got acquainted with Magnus Hultqvist who was the drummer at the time. ”It was great playing with him, and Jesper Wihlborg was watching us at one concert in Tingsryd in 1993. It’s great to have them both in the same band now.” At the moment, Magnus Danielsson is also the bass player in a band called Session, and they have recorded a five- track demo. However, Magnus’ number one priority is the Soulflyer project. Magnus is using a Fender Jazzbass’74 (modified with Seymour Duncan bass microphones), Ampeg amplifier and Mesa/Boogie 2 x 15" speakers.
