Rolling Thunder Revue
II '76
[ the band ]
| bob dylan - in my own words [news] [facts] [dylan-jesus] [links] |
The new Rolling Thunder Revue started next tour
on April 18 in Florida and lasted for 25 shows. The band
was the same as Rolling Thunder I, except that Ronee Blakely had left and Gary Burke replaced Luther Rix. This tour was very different from the last. New old songs with startling arrangements like Maggies Farm, Lay Lady Lay and I Threw It All Away appeared regularly. The shows differs very much from each other and many songs are only played once. This tour resulted in one TV special filmed at the show in Fort Collins 05/25/76 and a live album consisting some of the songs from the TV special and some from an earlier concert in Fort Worth. Many of the shows are reported to be uneven and some are really bad but some are even better than the best shows from Rolling Thunder I. Its lucky they choose songs from the concerts in Fort Worth and Fort Collins to be on the live album, Hard Rain. This is Dylan and his band playing together with great spirit. The songs really rolls out very inspired. Dylan must be credited for transforming the band and the songs to sound so new again. And he will soon do that again, using some of the musicians from this tour on the next in 1978. |
