Story:
Everybody was waiting for the new Dylan album. The Beatles and Stones released their most psycedelic albums. Could Bob top them? Out came John Wesley Harding. An almost complete acoustic album! Something very different from his last studio work, Blonde On Blonde. Here we have strong storytelling tunes with very simple arrangements, powerful in it's simplicity. This album was an experiment for Dylan. He said in an interview that this was the first (and last?) time wrote the lyrics first and then put music to it. There are not many songs here played often live except for All Along The Watchtower. No other song has been played more often live than this (correct me if I'm wrong!). Jimi Hendrix adopted the song and recorded an outstanding version of it. This album marks the end of Dylan's most creative, and productive period. In three years (1965-1967) he produced three of the most important albums in rock history, a world tour with electrifying performances, A big collection of remarkable songs later released as The Basement Tapes and a studio album with 12 new original songs. Another remarkable thing is that all the five different albums has their own distinctive sound and style!
