Story:
It was a remarkable step for Dylan to get the chance to record an album. He had just been around for a couple of months in New York and he was already the most known artist in Greenwich Village. He had played harmonica on an album with Harry Bellafonte earlier this year. "I just had to quit". "I played on one song only". He couldn't stand the endless retakes. "Harry's a perfectionist" - he said.
The album was recorded in a rush. Bob just entered the studio played his songs straight through and left. They simply picked out the best recordings and put them on the album. "I hate see myself play one song twice in a row" Dylan explained to his baffled producer. It was all very spontanious. Dylan sings with a strong harsh voice very unusual to a folkmusic album. There are only two songs by Bob and that reflects very good what he sang during his concerts at this time. The album only sold about 5000 copies, columbia wanted to dump him!
