QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
Queens of the Stone Age
From the ashes of Kyuss, Josh Homme creates QOTSA together with Nick Olveri. The heavy stoner rock that was Kyuss trademark changed and QOTSA's sounds more rock n' roll and less Black Sabbath. And of course, Josh voice are miles away from John Garcia, the singer from Kyuss, but Josh are for sure a good singer. Well, the first three songs on this first release are great. "Regular John", the opening one are a real killer, followed by "Avon" and "If only". Then this album goes downward. Like many other bands, QOTSA fires all they have at the start, then this album only lightens up a few times, like "Mexicola". But still this album showed the world would we should expected in the future.

QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
R - Restricted to Everyone, Everywhere, All the Time
This album have the things the debut didn't. And it have those weird things that "Songs for the Deaf" not have. So is the the perfect QOTSA album? Well, it could have been, but it isn't. I like "Songs..." because it's more straight forward. But this album have all the classic songs: "Feel good hit of the summer", "Autopilot", "Better living through chemistry" and more. But there are also some not so good songs. It feels like an experimental album that flailed the last steps before finish line. Because it's an really great album but some elements annoys me. But I know, I should not compare albums but it's really hard to not do that after the success with "Songs...". Anyway, buy this album if just have "Songs..." in your collection. I am sure you will like it.

Songs For The Deaf
Not sure in which category QOTSA fits in, but who cares about that anyway? It's not 100% metal, thats for sure.....But still it's a great album. I have read about the band before, but never heard them until "No One Knows" (like the rest of the world). I liked that song and discovered this varied and superb album. "No One Knows" is maybe the most "radio-friendly" song on the album, cause the rest are not that straight to the point and easy listened. The first song, for example, are more of a grunge, rock n' roll mix with screaming vocals. And thats what I like about this: no songs sounds like each other. Well, that thing alone not makes an album great, but the fact is that all the song are in one way or another good. So....what can I say...? Dare to listen to QOTSA, and thats include the whole album, not only "No One Knows"...(which, when I listen to it, sounds specially made for MTV)

The main figure from Bathory decides to make a solo album. And he tries to get as far away from Bathory as he can. And on that point he succeds. There are punk and heavy metal influences in the music and in the lyrics. And it sounds like shit......
