Nothing metal at all.....This is industrial rock or something with with techno influences. The chorus are often catchy and pop-like. But here and there some punk guitar riffs are to be found (like on "I think I´m Paranoid").
A girl, named Shirley Manson, handles the vocals in a fine way. Nothing to complain about. This is probably a nice album in this style, but since this isn´t my type of music I can not compare this one. But I like in fact this album.......Catchy, easy, techno beats.....nice!

When I´m thinking of the Gatering, I am thinking of Anneke van Giersbergen, the female singer with the wonderfull voice. Probably one of the best voices in the metal scene! How the songs are doesn´t matter, one can just sit and listen to her voice. Thats enough.....
This is a very nice album with a couple of strong songs that really stucks in your head, but there are not so many "real" songs. There are a couple of crap songs with soundeffects, noices and things like that to fill this album up.....But who cares, when there is a voice to die for......

THE GATHERING
Nighttime Birds
Well, the first song ("On Most Surfaces") opens up with a couple of nice riffs in a slow tempo, then Anneke´s voice begins, and you are spellbound....
This is pretty much the same as on "Mandylion", but the songs are more complex now. They are often slow, with heavy riffs, keyboards, acustics, performed in a sad and melancholic way. The only problem is that some songs are too long and boring......Bad thats not a big problem.....

Ordinary black metal from Norway with corpse paint, keyboards and ghosts(?). Maybe this was a little special in 1994 when it was released, but I am soooo tiered of this kind of music.....Listen to Gehenna anno 2000 instead.

GOD DETHRONED
Into the Lungs of Hell
"We are the warcult", "I am the great deceiver, I have caused so many wars", rhymes with words like "desire" and "fire"... As you can see, God Dethroned are not gifted with the power of making good lyrics. It's really corny sometimes actually, and I just can't help smiling. But this is metal, death metal, and the lyrics are not the most important part, even if, in my opinion, a bad song might grow if the lyrics are well written. But, as I said, this is death metal and the music comes first. And, luckily, God Dethroned are much better making cool riffs, nice melodies and brutal blastbeats than writing lyrics. And these Dutch guys have experience, that's for sure: formed back in 1991. Anyway, this is best described as a mix between Amon Amarth and In Flames (during the "Jester Race" album), together with some faster parts. So, you might figure out that God Dethroned are not playing the same death metal as Nile, Hate Eternal etc. No, they get the inspiration from Sweden, not the US. Which means that God Dethroned uses a soft approach within their making of death metal.
So, really great music, standard evil lyrics that's sucks! This is clearly music for those who wants to be evil but just can't make it all the way...Or as God Dethroned puts it: "We are the gods of terror" - Yeah!

Sometimes it feels fantastic to have a big punch in your stomach, to be pressed down to the ground of an unknown power. Lovely as hell... At least when Grand Magus are that power. You will for sure be lying on the floor, grasping for air after this round. It's so damn heavy, slow and just great. And on top of everything you have JB's fantastic voice. Deep, crisp and clean.
Grand Magus are one of those bands that have a 'stoner' mark tattooed on the
forehead. But I'm not ready to agree on that point. No, Grand Magus' music are
best described as doom metal, simply. Doom metal with a whiskey taste. Doom
metal because of the music, the heavy guitars, the drumming. The whiskey taste
comes from JB's mouth. His voice are clean, yes, but there are some traces from
an 70 year old alcoholic in that voice. And believe me, that's NOT a negative
thing. No, that voice are some of the best ones I ever heard.
After those words you better get this album right now! Mankind do deserves music
like this...

THE GREAT DECEIVER
A Venom Well Designed
This is one of Tomas Lindbergs (ex At the Gates, Crown, Lock up, Skitsystem) many bands. I have not heard this band debut album which was released a couple of years ago, so this band is a new experience for me. At first I was positively surprised: This band doesn't hit the gas and accelerate up to 160 and stay there, like almost every band Lindberg sings in. No, the first three songs gives me a claustrophobic feeling, it's slow and strange with weird guitar noises (?). But at the same time it is simple: Verse, chorus etc. And there are no deranged guitar solos, no Casio keyboards etc. Shortly, it's very raw, but still clean and sharp. Well, it's very hard to describe this music, but if you heard Lindbergs itching voice before you know for sure that this is high quality music.
But as always there are some things that aren't perfect.....If they skip two or three songs from the playlist this would be a great album. When I listen to half of the album start to think of tomorrow's weather. But just when you start to lose the interest the super song "Strychnine" runs you over with it's creepy verse and strong chorus.
So....This album is very exiting and put some new blood in the sleeping extreme metal scene. It starts with some great songs, the middle is boring, and the end is like the beginning. This is fresh, raw, strange and claustrophobic....

This is snowboard hardcore with a female singer, trying to sound like Gwen from No Doubt. This so bad so it becomes good.....If you know what I mean.
The lyrics are mostly about how cool it is to race the snowboard down the hill.....

GUNS N´ROSES
Appetite for Destruction
This is one of the greatset albums in the music history. A real midblower! I dont think GnR needs a presentation, and probably this album doesn´t need a review.....
This is qualitiy music that not contains the usual metal lyrics like monsters and how cruel Satan is......no, this is street life, alcohol, whores and drugs. With the mixture of punk and ordinary heavy metal GnR created something new, but few bands have been able to follow them, or copy them.....And maybe that shows how big they are.

GUNS N´ROSES
G N´R Lies
Contains some old material and some new acustic songs. The old ones ("Move to the City", "Nice Boys" plus two more) are peformed live somewhere. The sound are in fact very good, and Axl´s voice are great. The new songs, well "You´re Crazy" is to be heard on "Appetite..." as well, but this one is a acustic version of it. The other songs are all classics: "Patience", "One in a Million" and "Used to Love Her" (which was on the B-side off the "Paradise City" single, so it´s not a new song...).
So GNR shows that they can play live and acustic guitar as well, and they do it with style! This is a must have album.

GUNS N´ROSES
Use Your Illusion I + II
A long awaited album(s). Who knew that GNR had so much songs that they had to split it up in two, or actually four, records (at least the old LP´s had two vinyl on each album).
Well, at first: this is GNR from the very first song, but the "Appetite..." rawness are not there anymore. I can imagine that they thought: "Okay, we are a famous rockband now, lets spend some money on the production, not only whiskey...", or something. But who cares. This is two album that should be celebrated until the end of the world.
The songs are all classic´s: "Dont Damn Me", "November Rain", "Locomotive", "Pretty Teid Up", and more......
Sadly, after these albums, GNR seems to have disapeared from the face of the Earth. They did the cover thing "The Spagethi Incident", but that wasn´t so great, and after that Slash, Izzy and the other guys left the band for reasons I dont know, and dont care about......
