FAQ GM-3 GUITAR-MIDI

Q: What use do I have of a guitar-MIDI?
A: On the preceding page you can find tips for the use of MIDI.
Read more about MIDI and it's possibilities on the MIDI Manufacturer's Association's homepage.
Q: Can a MIDI be installed on any guitar?
A: The Bonotron MIDI fits perfectly on any guitar model, from classical nylonstrings to electrics. However, some guitars take a little more work at the installation.
Q: What other equipment do I need to use a guitar-MIDI?
A: To use a MIDI-system you need some sort of a soundmudule, synth or computer that is working acording to the MIDI-standard. You also need an amplifier to play back the instrumental sounds.
Q: What soundmodules/other equipment does Bonotron MIDI work with?
A: The Bonotron MIDI-systems work with all units that comply to the international MIDI-specification.
Q: What is done to the guitar?
A: This depands on what type of pickup you use. On an electric guitar there is achoice between a Humbucker model (MP-1500), that replaces a standard Humbucker, or an external pickup (MP-1550), that is screwed or attached with double-faced tape on the guitar body.
On an acoustig guitar the pickup is installed in the bridge, underneath the bridge saddle (MP-1600, MP-1660.) For this pickup six holes need to be drilled in the bottom of the saddle slot. The external pickup goes on an acoustic guitar as well as on an electric.
Q: Can the guitar be restored?
A: The only pickup leaves any traces on the guitar is the MP-1550, and the screwholes that this pickup leaves are usually quite small.
Q: Can I install a MIDI myself, and what skills and tools do I need?
A: To do a MIDI installation you need a sense for fine mechanics as well as basic skills in soldering and electronics.
Tools include soldering iron, various screwdrivers and pliers, a knife, files, electric drill and more. A complete list can be found in the manual.
Q: Where do I get an installation manual?
A: It is included in the user's manual that is available at our download page.
