Independent REPORT : prepared by arhiteckt SAR Zoltan Thurman " graduate diplomaed for social-planning, building- landscape-, and urban -planning. Swedish diplomaed for projectleading, Swedish addition for municipal-building with consideration for the environment. Ex professor for municipal-planning and architecture. Exept my tecknical/professional education and long working experience, I also have a family tradition to work with common artistic matters on society level.
My ograndfather Oliver Thurman was the mayor and founder of the artistic-colony Nagybánya but also the royal counselor to Franz Josef. My father was the famous professor Eugen Thurman. I have survived the Communist´s clas-pursuit i Nagybánya, but I could study and I became an architect and finally for ten years municipal scef-architect in Tirgu-Mures. (in Sweden only three cities have larger population than Tirgu-Mures or MAROSVASARHELY )
Since 1987 I live in Sweden.

You can´t say that there isn´t good architecture in Sweden. You can only admire Ralph Erskinne and other architect´s guality. Other foreing architects have been invited to carry through architect projects in Sweden. Unfortunately except good architecture, en important part of built environment worries the inhabitans and also the government. Everyting standing in this report is baserad on Swedish media, specialist literature and my Own wxperiences. What i present should´t be interpreted as a faultless entirety. Instead it´s about to develop and illustrate a new view with a purpose to improve Sweden´s architecture, and now after ten years continuos work my answer can be initiative on the question asked by the swedish people, foreign visitors and the swedish government.

  1. ) In Sweden there is no satisfactory EDUCATION FOR ARCHITECTURE. (page 2-4)
  2. ) In Sweden there are no demands for architect to master the drawing. (page 4)
  3. ) Too many Swedish arhitects are probably genetically insensitive people and without Sensitivity you can´t create good architecture. (page 4-5)
  4. ) Swedish building-laws are crooked and overloaded with "democratic" conceptions. Cerain technique- and architectural fundamental principes, which exist naturally in other countries are forgotten in Sweden. (page 5-7)
  5. ) The suspicion corruption in the Swedish building-business, probably has its base in the Swedish architect competitions. (page 8-13)
  6. ) New architecture enployments in Sweden are done after national possession valuations instead of profession qualifications and experiences. (page14)
