Puppeteer Dusan Petran graduated from the
Janacek Academy of Arts, one of the Czech Republic's oldest and
most renowned academies, with a degree in theater and sculpture.
After a ten year acting career in Czechoslovakia, political
unrest induced Petran to emigrate to the United States. Here he
has used his training in sculpture to hand carve twenty wooden
marionettes. His training in theater brought these marionettes to
life and Yorick's Theater was born.
Dusan Petran has performed at Faneuil Hall, The Puppet Showplace
Theater, libraries, and schools in the Metropolitan Boston area.
He constructed puppets for the Denver Center Theater Company's
production of "Beethoven and Pierrot". His sculpture
has been exhibited at the Artscape Gallery in Boston. He is an
approved artist listed in the Massachusetts Cultural Council's
Cultural Resource Directory and toured with his program in
Europe, USA, Japan and Canada.
"His hand-crafted wooden marionettes are so majestic that
they could entertain for hours by themselves."

"I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation as did all of the
children. His use of audience participation keeps the kids
continually focused."
