For treatment of tendons, joints and muscles. They have a very high output o maximum 15 Watts. This gives a short time of treatment.
They are suitable for treatment of horses and the treatment could be performed on some distance from the animal.
They have a low weight and are easy to move around in a stable.
MID-Laser
LLLT Lasers
Irradia's new MID laser is powerful but still small in size.
The base unit comes in 5 different colors.
There is possible to use the laser as an veterinarian model in which case we recommend our mobile case that is sturdy and protects the laser during transports.
The MID-laser system consists of a base unit and different attachable laser probes. Up to eight different laser probes can be attached to the base unit. Examples are:
- An Indium probe (635nm, 650nm, 670nm)),
- An Aluminum probe (780nm, 809nm, 820nm, 830nm)
- a Gallium probe (904nm-905nm)
- Outputs up to 3500mW (3.5W)
- Features
- The instrument has built in all the experience gained during the years since the first model of Irradia's MID laser was launched in 1983.
- The screen shows which laser probe that is attached and its output power.
- The probes can be operated pulsed between 25 and 5000
pulses per second or in a continuous manner. Some lasers as the GaAs are always pulsed.
- An inbuilt power meter shows the lasers output power.
- The laser can automatically calculate the time of treatment depending on the depth of the treatment area.
- To work with the Irradia MID-laser is very easy and intuitive, no programming is needed.
- Easy to keep record of ones treatment as everything is shown on the laser's display.
It is possible to have two laser probes attached at the same time. When one start using one of
the probes the display shows which wave length one is using.
The display even shows the probes output in mW.
- Size:; 30 x 20 x 7.5 cm
- Weight: 2.7 kg
- Electrical requirement: 115 V or 230 V, 50-60 Hz.
- Power consumption: typically 10 to max 40 W
- environment: 0-50 Centi degrees.
- Control panel: LCD-Display, Microprocessor controlled functions, Metal push buttons.
Control functions: Joule counter, Treatment time counter, Internal power meter, Tissue dept treatment setting and more.
Laser drive specification
- Wave lengths: 430-1310nm.
- Power: 15-3500 mW (3.5 W)
- Frequency: 0-5000 Hz.
- CE certified to European standards.
Applications
There are two main fields of application for medical lasers:
To treat conditions related to skin/mucous membranes
and to deal with problems of muscles, tendons and joints:
MID-Lasers / GaAs-Probe
60mW, 120mW:
Owing to the way GaAs-lasers (emitting a pulsed, invisible light of 904 nm, operate with
short but very strong light pulses, the laser light can penetrate deeper into the tissue
being treated than the light from the two other laser types can do by there own.
GaAs-lasers are therefore better suited for treating problems
we will refer to both the visible laser light of HeNe-lasers and the invisible laser
of muscles, tendons and joints. (For the sake of simplicity,
radiation of GaAs- and GaAlAs-lasers as laser light). Much research has been done on
the effect of medical laser treatment with different laser types. It has been shown not
only that
different laser types may produce different biological effects, but also that
different pulse frequencies of
pulsed lasers may bring about
different biological responses.
Most therapists recommend low frequencies when the prime interest is to
alleviate pain and high frequencies for treating
inflammations generally. In the extensive literature
on Low Level Laser Therapy (=LLLT = medical laser therapy = bio stimulation = photo-bio-activation)there are even
many double-blind studies, where GaAs-lasers have
proven to be very effective on e.g. tennis elbow, supraspinatus or bicipital tendenitis,
gonarthrosis, myofascial pains, on pain and swelling associated with rheumatoid arthritis,
lumbago, different chronic pains and neuralgia. GaAs-lasers are also used on athletic
injuries, headache, sinusitis, otitis and inflammation of the Achilles Tendon and gout.
MID-Lasers / Indium - or HeNe-Probe
5-9mW
In general, these lasers (emitting a continuous, visible light) have proven most effective
in treating conditions related to skin/mucous membranes, e.g. herpes simplex herpes zoster,
scars, verrucae, acne, (venous and other) ulcers, neuralgia, eczema, aphte, decubitus.
With a HeNe-laser, dentists are often able to help their patients get ride of the annoying
pains associated with hypersensitive dentine.
MID-Lasers / GaAlAs-Probe
30mW, 60mW, 250mW, 450mW, 900mW
There are several types of GaAlAs-lasers. The most well documented types of these lasers emit a
continuous, invisible or barely visible light with the wavelength of 820 nm. GaAlAs-lasers assume an intermediate
position as compared to the two other laser types, often proven effective on such skin conditions as leg ulcers but
also, at least to some extent, on the problems of muscles, tendons and joints.
MID-Lasers / For Mobile and Veterinary use
Typical users are sport teams, equitherapists and veterinarians the stable the compact and easy to
move unit makes it easy to work in tight spaces. It comes with the same features as the ordinary MID laser.
- The extra long flexible cord, with lengths up to 10m, gives freedom to move during
work.
Books
"The Low Level Laser Therapy - LLLT - The Clinical Practice and Science Background",
new February 1999.
This is the book you have been waiting for!
Here is something for everybody interested in Laser Therapy. The text is a blend of easy to understand language
and scientific documentation. The "tall tales" about LLLT are mercilessly scrutinized and the facts are revealed.
750 scientific references may seem a bit deterring for the average clinician, but don't worry mate! The most
difficult parts are put into an appendix, ready for you when you are ready for it. The book will not only give
you more knowledge about the possibilities of Laser Therapy, it will also be a mighty weapon in your hands
against those who may question Laser Therapy in general. Unless they read it too, they should close their case.
About the Authors:
Jan Tunér,
left, is a dentist in private practice, working with LLLT since 1986.
Member of the editorial board of Laser Therapy, the organ of WALT. Lars Hode, right, is a physicist. He is one of the
worlds most experienced medical laser designers. He has been working in this field since 1983.
This is their 4th book on Laser Therapy.
In specially invited contributions you can read the following:
- An abstract of dissertation by Dr. Shelly M. Khullar at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Oslo, Norway 1997,
titled "Reinnervation after nerve injury: the effects of low level laser treatment".
- Low Level Laser Therapy of inner ear diseases, by Dr. Lutz Wilden, Germany. This innovative therapy brings new
hope for patients suffering from tinnitus and new opportunities for therapists.
- A brief information about effects of LLLT on spinal cord injuries by Professor Semion Rochkind.
The price for the book is USD 89 plus post and package.
