Melodymaker III (1968)
Gibson Melodymaker (1959-75?) Gibson melody maker
'59
the Gibson Melodymaker was introduced in 1959 with a single
cutaway, a flat body, a small peghead, the same scale and number of
frets as the 1952 Les Paul, and a sunburst finish. It was available
with one or two single-coil pickups. In 1961 it went from single to
double cutaway. In 1964 the body horns of the guitar were sharpened,
and a red finish replaced the sunburst. In 1966 the melody maker
adapted the SG shape, the guitar became available in blue, the
pickguard was enlarged, and a vibrola vibrato was added. In 1970 the
blue and red finishes were replaced by walnut, the slide switch was
replaced by a standard toggle switch, and the peghead transformed
into the large gibson standard.
