The name of the original character in the French films is spellt Emmanuelle (with two m's). In the second of these films (Emmanuelle l'antivierge, 1975) Laura Gemser (Moira Chen) was seen as a masseuse. The same year she became Black Emanuelle in Bitto Albertini's film of the same name. Soon Joe D'Amato took over both the actress and the character and sent her on adventures with cannibals, prostitutes and snuff films. (Snuff films was a hot theme in 1976). Bruno Mattei sent Emanuelle to prison in the early 80's, and Giuseppe Vari made her a nun. Bitto Albertini made one more film with Black Emanuelle and later invented Yellow Emanuelle.
