I know someone who makes a website about Italian exploitation films who thinks that The Exorcist is an overrated film. Nevertheless it made a huge impact on cinema-going audiences everywhere and consequently exorcism became a popular theme for a few years. L'ossessa, L'anticristo and Chi sei? were finished in November 1974 and less than three months later Mario Bava's unreleased Lisa e il Diavolo had received new scenes where Elke Sommer -vomiting and blaspheming- retells the original story to a priest. This new version was given the more saleable title La casa dell'esorcismo. Another film to inspire followers was The Omen. Two examples are Holocaust 2000 (1978) and The Visitor (1979).
