Kirk Hammett was born in San Fransisco November 18 in 1962. His older brother, a hippie, played guitar, which made Kirk interested in music. Kirk began playing guitar when his brother moved because of high school. In the beginning he was mostly playing with the guitar, but started taking guitarlessons in 1981. After about two weeks he formed the band Exodus. When the band broke up he got to play in Metallica, that recently had sacked their leadguitar-player Dave Mustaine. Kirk is very good at riffs. 'Load' is full of his material. The other bandmembers describes him as a "don't give a fuck"-person. He always says what he thinks and is the one of them that is the most approachable. He loves to make fun of people and really tries to make them believe weird things.
