PER HENRIK WALLIN TRIO

Live in Stockholm 1998

BLUES for ALLAN

Per Henrik Wallin p Here is the Per Henrik Wallin Trio recorded live during two evenings at Jazzclub Fasching in Stockholm. At last, after eight years, Per Henrik Wallin is back with a new CD. The previous recording was made shortly after the accident that left him seriously disabled. The return of Per Henrik Wallin is not only a musical event but also a personal achievement. Wallin is still in a wheelchair, but he has begun to play in public and is making serious plans for the future.
Leif Wennerström d One important step of his come-back is this recording with a new trio featuring Peter Janson on bass and Leif Wennerström on drums.
Per Henrik Wallin is one of Sweden's most original pianists as well as an innovative arranger and bandleader. Since his debut thirty years ago his artistry has been characterized by musical versatility ranging from Swedish evergreens to classical music and even entertainment music of a lighter kind. Some of his Swedish sources of influence are Jules Sylvain, Allan Pettersson and internationally musicians such as Thelonius Monk, Bud Powell and Charles Ives. Per Henrik Wallin's own musical brew. however, is always distinctly individual and engaging. Sometimes he can be provocative, commenting on the changes in the artistic climate of his country. On the other hand a tension-breaking laugh is never far off.
Peter Janson b This new recording is a good sample of Wallin's music which uses the blues as a starting point (It's not a coincidence that there are two blues tunes on the album). The tune "Ryssland" is a tribute to the Russian people acknowledging their struggle today and throughout history.
The two new members of Wallin's trio both display personality and unique voices. This is especially true of Leif Wennerström, a long time partner of Bernt Rosengren's, who adds a dimension to Per Henrik Wallin's music. By the way, this is the first time they play together in eleven years. Bass player Peter Janson hails from Gothenburg and is, among other engagements, a member of The Aaly Trio. He has the "right swing" required to be a member of this exciting trio.
