The final incarnation
of the 109 was the Spanish-built
Hispano-Suiza fighter
series. Having achieved 25 G-2
airframes from Germany,
but no engines, the assembler
initially fitted them
with the Hispano-Suiza HS 12Z engine
delivering 1300 hp. The
result was designated Ha-1109.
Since this combination
proved not entirely satisfactory,
in 1953 work began on
yet another variant, using the
thoroughly proven Rolls-Royce
Merlin powerplant.
When production of the
Ha-1112 ended in 1956, it
marked the end of 21
years of production of this
truly classic fighter
airplane.
