The infamous German fighter
of WW2, the Bf 109
formed the backbone of
the Luftwaffe fighter force.
Produced in many versions,
the 109 was produced
in almost 35.000 examples,
flown in service by
16 air forces before,
during, and after the second
world war. More aces
has been made in this nimble
little fighter than in
any other aircraft in the world.
Bf 109 C-2
One of the early variants,
the C was fitted with a 635 hp
Junkers Jumo 210D engine.
The radiator was fitted
under the nose, it was
to be moved under the wings
on all later variants
to provide better cooling and less
drag for the bigger and
more powerful Daimler-Benz engine.
