Why use Visual Basic?
I tried many other languages but how much I want to learn the power with C++ I never managed to do anything really complex. The windows programming is horrible with c++. Visual C++ is a bit better but it is not near as good as Visual Basic. Many people claims that VB is a beginner and I agree. But that is because anyone can make an easy program in vb. But you can do almost do any sort of Windows application with vb. If you use Windows API will VB become just as good as an application under any other language. It only takes knowledge to do something advanced just as any other language. But as I see it is there only two downsides with VB. The *.dll -files you must have to run vb-applications and that you only can develop windows-programs.
VBScript
It is hard to make a homepage these days because everyone think it is worthless if it isn't dynamic. You must have Scripts, Java or ActiveX-controls on the site to impress anyone. You can't only use ordinary html-code.
This creates a big problem for vb-programmers, when vb offers a language clone of the original vb-language like VBScript or the ability to make webcomponents in vb with ActiveX. Both are good contributions to webdesign but Microsoft have captured them and they only work with Internet Explorer. It isn't worth using when only 50% of the site visitors can see it. I hope that Microsoft will understand that they won't be a hit until they let other browsers use them. For all you who want to try VBScript anyway is here a clock made in VBScript. Download Clock.
