Allied  strategy defensive:

In the manual for A Bridge Too Far there is of course not so much information on this issue.
And although the Germans are better in defending AND attacking, there is always a chance
to find weaknesses in every setup.
If  I'm playing as allied and defending I look at the terrain, well that's naturally we all do, and
checks if there are any buildings to deploy in. If there, is it 1, 2 or 3 stories buildings?
And , could I use them to setup some AT-guns? Sometimes there is reasons not to, for ex-
ample when you are expecting heavy fire on that building. Many opponents begin the attack
with bombardments on buildings with suspected inhabitants. So maybe AT-guns should be
deployed in buildings were the attacker cant see at the beginning of the game? I think this
means greater opportunity to surprise your enemy. At the cost of not shelling of at each other
instantly on the word BEGIN, making the game last a little longer which has its good and bad
sides.

Some players, great ones I'll assure you, sets up very advanced tactics and perform it with great determination. This kind of players are very hard to defeat, you probably would have to know of their tactics or have quite a lot of luck."Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best" is one way to deal with your worst nightmare of opponents.I always stick to my own tactic in the beginning of a game, if chances are that you know your opponent maybe he know you as well ? Hehe,so I try to vary my tactics when I meet a player who knows me well. When the game develops you really have to consider to change your strategy in almost every game. Why? Well that's what makes a good player in my opinion, the ability to adapt yourself, with the forces you have, to a new threat or a new goal to achieve, is the most valuable one in my opinion.

Lets look in to a example :

You got Allies on defend, 3 victory locations at least 2 of them which you have to hold in the end of the game, that means Germans are on attack.
You study the map and pick the forces that you think you need to achieve a victory: 2  17 pdr ATguns,1 Firefly to set up in the back,3 bazookateams, 2  0.5 cal MG and a bunch of inf units.
Game on and the German player launches an attack that knocks you off the vls, he shows you some kind of new tactic.A screen o f smoke let he's inf storm your AT guns, then he brought the tanks up front,2 Mark III pounded your buildings and only luck saved your firefly, 2 zookas and some inf.
Now you have to counterattack, and this is the beauty of this game, a new goal to achieve and if you succeed you will feel real good. If not, you have to train harder and get some new strategies maybe. Learn more about this map you just lost on and so on, there's is no easy way to glory, all the top players will tell you that.
