WELCOME TO THE FIXO FILES
Welcome to
another edition of the Fixo Files. This time it's
all about one thing : ATARI, the once so famous company, founded
by Nolan Bushnell, the creator of the very first
computer game called
Computer Space. Atari became a legend thanks to
games like Pong,
Asteroids, Centipide
and their range of computers, varying from
gameconsole systems to 16-bit home computers.
Although Atari
Corporation is no
longer alive, it's legend will always live
on. Also in emulation ofcourse. That's exactly why it was a good
idea
to speak to some people who write Atari emulators. It's them who
make
sure the good things Atari brought in the past aren't forgotten
today.
To begin, there's an interview with John Saeger.
John is the man behind Z26,
the Atari 2600 emulator that was updated recently
(twice even). Next up is Frederic
Gaudouin, author of PacifiST, emulating the 16-bit Atari ST home computer. Keith
Wilkins is featured in
the third interview. Keith wrote Handy up
till version
v0.40. Handy emulates the Atari Lynx,
the first ever portable color videogame
console. Last emulation related interviewee is Richard Lawrence. Richard
is part of the Atari800win team, a multiple Atari emulators
project.
To have a better view of what Atari was and is all about, I also
spoke
to Les Caron. Les is one of the editors at the Atari Gaming Headquarters,
which is for sure the most informative Atari site on the net. He
talks
about what Atari was all about... their systems, their games,
their gains
and eventually as well their dissapearance.
Last word is given to Don
Thomas. Don worked for
seven years at Atari, you
may also know him for his excellent articles he has been writing
for
numerous Atari sites during the last few years. In this article,
Don talks about the
upcoming World of Atari
'98 show.
