Commodore Amiga History

June 1985: Amiga 1000 launched at the Chicago CES.

July 1986: A500 launched

Winter 1987: Price-cutting war with Atari. Amiga ends up slightly more expensive than ST but sells well.

June 1988: Future Publishing launces ST-Amiga Format magazine.

Dec 1989: Over 50,000 A500s are sold in the Christmas period alone, thanks to the Batman pack.

May 1990: Commodore launches the Amiga 3000 Desktop machine.

July 1990: Commodore launches world's first CD console the CDTV.

Feb 1991: Worldwide Amiga users number more than 3 million.

Dec 1991:A600 launched

August 1992: Sensible Soccer released. Goes in at #1

Nov 1992: A1200 released.

August 1993: CDTV released.

May 1994: Commodore goes into voluntry liquidation, its business falling due to PC sales.

May 1995: Amiga sold to Escom Ltd

Nov 1995: Amiga 1200 bundles back on sale.

May 1996: Escom goes bankrupt.

May 1997: Gateway 2000 buys the rights to Amiga.
