Welcome to Information DesignInformation Design of Mälardalen´s University was one of the first academic institutions, and is still one of the very few, to offer courses in technical communication and information design in Sweden. Every year that passes we refine our courses to meet the ever changing demands of industry and commerce. We maintain close contact with the industry and many of the projects that the students work with are industry linked. This enable us to expand and develop into numerous different specialist areas of work.
Technical IllustratorTechnical illustrator students learn how to draw exploded views, flow charts and function descriptions of technical things such as vehicles and mechanical details. They learn how to combine traditional methods of working, such as airbrush and ink, with computer aided drawing in programs as Illustrator, CorelDraw, Photoshop and Autocad. They also have theoretical communication subjects where they learn how to adapt their drawings to a target group.
Technical WriterTechnical writer students learn how to write documentation, instructions, popular science articles and how to edit and improve existing documentation. They also learn how to layout and combine pictures with text and arrange it so it suits a certain target group. Technical writers work a lot with computer aided publishing and develop skills in handling computer programs like Word, Page Maker, Quark Xpress and Photoshop. Scientific IllustratorScientific illustrator students learn how to draw good illustrations within the spheres of chemistry, medicine, animals and social history. They also learn how to combine traditional methods of working such as airbrush, water-colour and ink with computer aided drawing in programs as Illustrator, CorelDraw, Photoshop and Dimensions. Scientific WriterScientific writer is a new course which starts in the autumn of 1997. As the technical writers, scientific writer students will learn how to write good Swedish which is adapted to a certain target group. However, the Scientific writers will specialise their writing on scientific things like chemistry, medicine, animals and social history.
Computer GraphicsUntil the academic year of 1997-98 students from the technical illustrator/writer courses and the scientific illustrator course can choose to study a one-year additional course called Computer graphics. During this course the students learn how to produce multimedia presentations, HTML programming, news graphics, 3D modelling and 3D animation. After the academic year of 1997-98 the Computer graphics program will be integrated in all illustrator and writer courses.
Design and Product DevelopmentThe Design and product development course teach how to design all kinds of products. The idea is that the designer shall be contacted in an early stage of the construction work so he/she can see to that the product becomes user-friendly.Information Stage DesignThe Information stage design student learn how to design stages and how to attract audience and spectators. They study subjects such as dramaturgy, choreography, spatial creation, electronic media and graphic design. During the third year the students will have the possibility to specialise in a certain sphere of interest. Information DesignInformation design is a one-year additional course where the students can choose from many different information and communication subjects. Fundamental information design and two projects are compulsory. The aim of this course is to give further knowledge in information and communication for example how to use space and 3-dimetional structures when communicating with people.
