Uhura comes from the United States of Africa and her name is Swahili for Freedom. She likes singing.
 
 Uhura was the communication officer on Enterprise and Enterprise-A and is considered to be one of StarFleets best experts on communications and data analysis. She is also an expert on linguistics.

 She was the fourth-in-command on the Enterprise. After Kirks second assignment to StarFleet HQ she was transferred to Covert Operations where she worked with Chekov.
