Floyd the Barber - Besides it obvious references to the Andy Griffith Show, this song conveys the message that things are not always what they appear to be.  i.e. Small town Americans were well to do and enjoyed happy lives. Contrary to Cobains dreay life in Aberdeen Washington after his parents were divorced.  Also displays Castration fears - Drums  by Dale Crover

About A Girl - A song that Kurt wrote for his girlfriend Tracy when she threatened to kick him out if he didn't find a job.

School - A song about the Seattle music scene, expressing the idea if you didn't make it there was a constant struggle to(i.e. "No Recess")

Love Buzz - A cover song by a group from the Neatherlands called Shocking Blue.

Paper Cuts - Lyrics for the most part on based a family that Kurt stayed with who locked their kids in a room.  Song also expressess feelings of neglect. - Drums: Dale Crover

Negative Creep -View of the world from an antisocial person who does not care what society thinks of him

Scoff - The song is directed to those people that didn't believe in Kurt's musical ability or aspirations.

Swap Meet - A song about the traditional battle of the sexes in the background of a Sunday Swap meet.

Big Cheese -This song is about the pressure that Sub Pop man  Jonathan Poneman  put on the band.

Lithium -A song about a person whose going insane and whose mind is only held together by his faith in God. Also an update on Carl Marx's theory that "Religion is the opiate of the masses" possibly meaning that religion is an easily obtained drug that is supposed to bring those who find it relief but in some cases does not..

Polly -A song about the actual kidnapping of a 14 year old girl and her torture.  Only change in the story is that kurt implies that it was the girls cunning that led to her escape.

Drain You - A song about  love.

Lounge Act -A song about having a vison for life and having it be smothered by a relationship.

Stay Away - An attack on conformist ways of acting.

On A Plain -  A song about loving oneself after being denied from  people that it should come unconditionaly from(i.e. parents)

Something in the Way - A song about Kurt's experiances when he was kicked out of home and lived under a bridge for a time.

Endless, Nameless -Formaly called "The Noise Jam" this is a song created when one of the takes on Lithium went bad.

Rape me - In Kurt's words,  a song that's poetic justice, a man rapes a woman, is convicted and is raped there.

Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle - A song about Frances Farmer, who was declared insane and lobotimized.

Dumb -A song about finding pleasure in something that society has deemed dumb and wondering if by enjoying it you are dumb.

Very Ape - An Attack on the stereotypical macho man.

Milk It - A song about co-dependancy with a heavy medical theme.

Pennyroyal Tea - A song about making a difficult decision and surviving the guilt that follows it.  Pennyroyal Tea is an abortive substance.

Radio Friendly Unit Shifter - According to Kurt a throwaway song.  The title is a reference to "Smells Like Teen Spirit' and it's radio freindly sound.

tourette's - Contrary to popular belief, this song is a bit more than just Kurt screaming.  It's about a man whose afflicted with tourette's syndrome who is paranoid that everything and anything is out to kill him.

All Apologies - I don´t know if this is a song about Francis and Courtney but many thinks so...  Possibly it´s about depression.
