The
regiment traces its history to the fänika (tactical unit used in the
late dark ages) raised in Värmland and Dal during the 1500:s. Gustaf II Adolf
formed a regiment within Södermanland, Närke and Värmland, later it was formed
exclusively within Närke and Värmland. This regiment was known as
Närke-Värmlands regiment. The first commander was Alexander Lesley. In 1812
it was split in two. The two regiments became known as Närkes
regiment and Värmlands regiment. Värmlands
regiment
was located in Karlstad until 1992 when it was relocated to Kristinehamn.
The regiment was numbered 22 but this changed to 2 in 1939 when Göta
lifeguards was disbanded. From 1993-2000 the regiment raised the 2nd
infantrybrigade that was being reorganized from a motorized infantrybrigade to a
mechanized infantrybrigade with Pbv 501 (the swedish version of the BMP-1). The
regiment was disbanded in 2000.
