Welcome to William's Homepage!

This is my home away from home on the internet.

I've been living in Europe since 1984 and find that the differences can make life very interesting!

Just the other day I got a hankering for home made cherry pie.  Now if I was in the land of the all-night supermarket I could just walk to just about any store and pick up some cherry pie filling and a pie crust.  Not here in Sweden!

After finding the recipe, I went on a search for cherries.  After a long and difficult search I finally obtained 2 small cans of cherries in heavy sugar water for 20:00 SEK apiece (6.87SEK/$1.00=$2.91 x 2cans=$5.82).

I have an ordinary job for average wages (in Sweden) and here are some of my daily/weekly expenses:

I am currently renting a house (3 bedrooms+living room+kitchen) for 4 419:00SEK  per month ($657.78).

Fuel for the oil heater costs 8500SEK/3000Liters ($1237.26 or $.41/liter) and it has to be filled twice a year.

I fill up my SAAB 900 16i with gas every week for approximately 400SEK ($58.00)

Lunches cost about 40-45SEK per person ($5.82-$6.55) for a single plate with drink and coffee or a lunch at McDon.

Milk cost 11:00SEK for 2 liters

Cheese (and there are lots to choose from) costs about 35-79:00SEK/kilo.

Fresh Bread costs about 10:SEK for a fresh loaf (again, lots to choose from).  Just a note, swedish breads have fewer preservatives than those found in the states, and they usually come unsliced.
