A close friend to the US president is found killed on a boat and on board the boat is also found an amount of cocaine. Operation Showboat starts with the goal to stop drug smuggling. At the same time Admiral Greer is taken in to hospital for cancer. The drug cartel strikes back - Three high officials is murdered in Bogota. The US trains and sends soldiers to Colombia to fight the Medellin drug cartel. The cartel finds out and bribes someone in the CIA and all support to the soldiers are withdrawn and they are left alone with no way to get out. Jack Ryan has to go to Colombia and get them out.
